  1. Default I was shipped "Upgraded Welder"

    Hi Everlast,

I had ordered a 160 STH earlier this week, through Amazon, and received package yesterday. I opened the box and read the letter that was on top of the packaging. The letter explained that Everlast was out of stock of the MultiPro 205 and that they upgraded me to a SuperUltra 205. So, I thought well maybe they meant they were out of the 160 STH and this is the only "form" letter they have.

I contacted Everlast yesterday and explained the situation. The Lady I talked to said it was ok as long as I have the letter, mentioned above.

I am concerned because the SuperUltra 205 is the older MOSFET Technology. It appears that I should be concerned based on a post that Performance posted on 9-03-2013 referring to MOSFET Units as cheap. I am not happy that I am having to go through this trouble. I have tried the SuperUltra 205 and it is a very nice machine, but I am concerned that it won't last and will be troubled again in the future of having to ship it back for repair.

Is the SuperUltra a MOSFET Unit? What are my options?

    Thank you,
    Jeff

SuperUltra is a mosfet. Ship it back and get the 160sth, if that is what you ordered. It looks like an office glitch. Looks like someone got a mis shipment. The boxes should be about the same size, and someone may have slapped the wrong sticker on it in a shipping rush, if the two were side by side ready to ship. IF you have any problems in resolving this, pm me right away, and I'll see if I can't help out.

    Hi Mark,
I talked to Amazon and they will only refund 50% of what I paid if I return the 205 since I have tried out the welder. Remember that I tried out the welder based on the letter that came with the welder and after I talked to Everlast yesterday. What are your thoughts?
    Thank you,
    Jeff

If you ordered it through amazon, then they must have upgraded you. I am not sure what you did exactly. Not much we can do on this end if they consider it used and it was from them. I would have just sent it back since it's clear that the product isn't even similar. Because now, it's technically used, and not worth it to anyone at the regular price. Someone else will complain they got a "used" welder...so some consideration is probably being made for that.

Did the letter come from Everlast or Amazon? If Everlast, then the "upgrade" may have been performed by Everlast--e.g. putting a SuperUltra in a MultiPro box--but Amazon is still responsible for shipping you the wrong unit (MultiPro/SuperUltra instead of PA160STH).

Can you go back to the Amazon refund page and just click, "Wrong item received," and not tell them it's used? I mean, if you only ran a bead or two to test it out, does it really matter?

Thanks for your thoughts. I didn't want to be dishonest and instead let both Everlast and their distributor choose to stand by me. With Everlast being a foreign company, I seen the form letter explaining that they were out of a machine and sending me this "upgrade" as just the way they are handling order fulfillment. I would not have tried the machine if that letter hadn't accompanied the machine and also talking to Everlast.

Yes, the letter was on an Everlast Company letterhead.

    Mark,

I appreciate the quick responses. So it sounds like I am stuck with the only option of being refunded 50% from your distributor. Am I still covered by the 5 year warranty on the 205?

    Thank you,
    Jeff

No way would I send in a Super Ultra 205 to get a 160STH back, even if the 160STH had double decker IGBT's. The cheapest dual voltage 50 amp plasma on the market is over 300 bucks, it would have to be shipped to China if it broke so its the same as not having a warranty. Even if you have a plasma, having a backup that will run on 110 would be handy.

Having the extra 45 amps could never be a bad thing, it may even be needed the first time someone asks you to weld something.

If the 160STH was not ordered with a foot control, getting one with the Super Ultra 205 is a big plus.

A lot of the early Everlast machines were Mosfet, if any had a short life everyone would already know about it.

    srp,
They (the people) do already know about it. It's not something we hide. The older machines we had with Mosfets were problematic. Once the bugs were worked out, they generally worked fine. Jakeru likes his machine, but he has worked on it some himself. But Mosfets today even though they are better aren't as good as the IGBT machines. I think the 160 sth is better in general, and probably stronger on 110V. It's not just amps, you are fooling with. It's volts as well...which is actually total wattage.

I would not have a problem with any Everlast machine with Mosfets mainly because I know the warranty is good. On the other hand I would never buy one that has to shipped back to China for repair.

All brands are going to have warranty work, the last Syncrowave 250 I bought got out of the factory with the 14 pin Amphenol plug not soldered up and the new Smith flowmeter would blow it's safety disc. It all got worked out under warranty and I am still a happy customer.

It was not an upgrade .. It was a mistake !

We only upgrade to SuperUltra 205 when people buy older MiltiPro 205

Box was labeled incorrectly . I prefer to exchange the units

Please call me Monday and I will arrange all

I would or will only buy directly from Everlast... just an FYI

Thank you all for your input and comments, now back to some burning

I have to ask this question. Back when Everlast was still pushing Mosfets, Lugweld posted on Welding Webb that all the problems with Mosfets and Everlast was from one batch of bad Mosfets. I took that at face value, was that the truth or not?

Unfortunately, You got some facts mixed up there. I wasn't with the company when we were selling Mosfets...so I wasn't pushing them...but rather commenting about the issues. We got a run of really bad of Mosfets, but overall the units didn't hold up as well as the IGBT units...
