  1. Default PowerUltra 205 arrived

Monday came home from work to a PowerUltra 205 sitting next to my garage door. Doesn't UPS require signatures anymore? I don’t trust my neighbors

Anyways. The welder arrived in pristine condition, hooked it all up and plugged it in and powered it on. Because it has been around 10 degrees I haven't done much testing but was able to burn a few rods and cut a couple pieces of scrap. Compared to the multipro 205, I could immediately tell the PU could cut much thicker at lower amps with a cleaner cut (might just be the nicer/better s45 style torch?)

So far I am happy with the new machine but I had a few questions.

When I power the unit on, the fan is very loud which is fine. But while on TIG or ARC mode the unit will make a high pitch sound no matter what the amp setting is but when on CUT it doesn’t make that noise at all. Should I be concerned?

The tig torch that I received with the PU 205 is not the same as what is depicted on the website. The model number on the side says SR-26? with a large on/off button zip tied to the handle and black electrical tape holding the wires down. Is this normal?

The torch design does seem to change frequently, so the photos always seem to be out of date. They ship the most current version. As long as it is a 26, the parts all interchange.
Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!

Thats understandable. also explains the purple s-45 plasma torch. Hell I dont really care the color or the look as along as it performs, but the SR-26 tig torch feels awkward with the big clunky push button. I dont think ill use it and instead use one of my other torches.

The temp is supposed to be in the 30's this weekend, Ill be sure to put this machine to the test while i finish building my 3 point power rake and begin working on the rocket stove/heater for the garage. I will see if i can get some pictures and videos of the sound it makes while on tig/arc

Post a picture of the entire front of your machine so that we can see settings and setup... video including the sound is even better.

this weekend was a bust... Didnt get to do much testing.

For some reason my homemade air dryer that is attached to the wall next to my compressor decided to "explode". To say the least, I spent the weekend cleaning up 8lbs of silica gel crystals... what a mess

The 26 is a standard size torch. This has a straight handle and is no larger than other brands of 26 standard series. The switch is not unlike other 2t/4t add on switches. The switch must be held on someway with either velcro or zip ties. This is not unusual. When using a foot pedal the switch can be removed. The older style torch was MUCH more bulky than this. A smaller air cooled torch is going to carry less amperage. The 26 is designed for 200 amps air cooled operation. A 9 is designed for 125 max and a 17 which uses the same cons as the 26 but with a smaller barrel is rated typically for 150 amps. You pay a price for having more amperage.
