Thread: Item availability

  1. Default Item availability

I haven't totally made up my mind just yet, I'm leaning back and forth between two machines. The PowerTig 200DX and the 250EX. I was just wondering what the availability of each of these machines is. Are they in stock or is there a wait for them to arrive? I'm looking forward to getting a new machine, if I can ever make up my mind haha.

    Thanks.

I can help make up your mind for you if there are plenty in stock.

The 250EX or 200DX, neither will disappoint. But the 250EX, other than special wave forms, will give you about all you can want on a 240VAC 50amp circuit. It offers a couple extra features over the DX but that 50AMP extra for aluminum is nice.

Oleg will have to chime in on stocks, or call 877-755-9353 ext 201. Not today of course it is Thanks Giving.

    Some other picking points:
~To use the 250EX to its fullest capability you'll need a watercooler, too. 200 amps is about the max for air cooled.
~The 200DX comes in a dual voltage model, too, which really extends its portability.

Forgot to mention, welcome to the forums!

Thank you all for the info and the welcome.

The more I think about it the more torn I am. I think the extra 50 amps on the 250 is calling my name. The fact it comes with a water cooled torch is nice as well. Just have to add the water cooler and go.
Mike, I'll give you a call sometime next week and let you convince me haha.

    Thanks again.

I use a gas cooled CK 210 with my 250EX. It'll take 250 amps for short welds but it gets pretty warm on AC over 200 amps. I recently built up an aluminum cylinder head for a air cooled 2 stroke race engine so that it could be remachined for a smaller chamber. With all those cooling fins I had to bury the fins in a bucket of glass beads to keep the heat in it. I gave it around 240 amps to get it hot, then backed off to around 200 once the heat started to build. It looks ugly and uneven with one little low spot, but all that will machine off. The Tig Finger I was wearing got so hot I couldn't touch it for a few minutes.

I use a gas cooled CK 130F under 150 amps which is most of the time.
Plug and play CK torch packages are available through Everlast sales.

Thanks for the pictures. You know, I've never actually used an air cooled torch. I worked out a little deal at work where I leave my personal MIG welder there and we use it for little maintenance jobs around the shop. In return I get to screw around on the TIG machines. It works out good for me because I am in the process of setting up my little shop at home at the moment (electrical and such). The TIG machines are all water cooled so that's all I have experience with.

One of our welders brought in a similar project to what you posted. I watched him weld it and was really shocked at how much junk was coming out of that thing. It looked just about like yours after weld but it really machined up nice.

Once I have my home shop set up I'll probably still keep the MIG at work. The machines at work are monsters and it will be nice to be able to use them if I need the extra capacity.

If it stays in the shop the 250ex is king. Portable tig. I would still go big and get a big genset. You can cool the torch without a water cooler as well.
