Power I mig vs I mig E

Hi. I am new to this form and am interested in a new mig welder. I can't seem to find any feedback on the Power I Mig E. How does it compare to the Power I Mig with the digital display? The specs looks better with the E in a lot of areas, despite the lower cost. Any thoughts?

Welcome, DaytonaDogie! Have to admit the E series is a new one on me. The tech support guys. Mike and Mark, are sure to be able to help, but being Saturday they may be enjoying a day off.

I can tell you, though, that each of them use the IMIG 200 in their shops, and that it is a robust machine. What kind of projects do you have in mind?

Duncan has them listed on the ca website, and ebay. I think they are an older discontinued model and also only one year warranty. If you message TitanWinch (Duncan) I'm sure he can fill you in on the details and differences.

Thanks for the replies. I do metal fabrication as a hobby. Right now I have a Solar 110 mig welder, as well as a Lincoln square wave tig 175, and , of course, an oxy/acetylene torch. I like to tinker with cars, and am in the planning stages for a V8 engine swap in my Toyota Land Cruiser.

The Everlast welders seem to be a great value. I don't need anything real fancy, just a good reliable welder with enough power to weld motor mounts, suspensions and frames. The Power I mig E seems more than enough to handle this, but I am willing to spend the extra bucks, if the I Mig 200 is that much better. Hope someone can help me with this.

I will probably go with a 5.3 Vortec/4L60E combo. This is a pretty common swap, with lots of support on the I8mud forum.

The imig200 is my smallest machine. But I would never get rid of it, small and will run on a small generator. With a spool gun you can run aluminum with it and flux wire for windy welding. I really like it and have another coming to me myself.

Hi Mike. Any info on the 200 E? Seems to be a mystery machine.

From just looking at the web site. the 200 E is 200 amps , straight forward controls for wire speed and voltage amps (a,b,c,d,e,), 1yr warranty $600. The I mig 200 is only 160 amps, digital read out on voltage and wire speed (fine tune adjustment) 3 yr warranty $800. 200E is a tweeco style gun easy to find consumables, Imig is Binzel style with metric threads for contact tips, not so common but Lincoln 1/4 x28 thread tips do work, same as the CDN tire contact tips for their Lincoln welders. Truthfully I can not tell the difference with the thread pitch checking them on a thread pitch gauge. I myself have the IMig 200 and I went that route just because of the digital read out and 3 yr warranty. Same price as the CDN Tire stuff when it is not on sale but just a few more features. I am not sure if the CT stuff is inverter or transformer style . I always hated to pick a, b, c ,d or e for voltage. I have found dials like that on some machines you wanted a in-between setting or I selected a lower setting made it work. Either one will handle what you are welding. If you think it is to thick for the machine , do a multi pass. Not the nicest welds but they work. My thinking with thick stuff and a smaller welder is when in doubt, max it out on all settings. Same motto for sledding, when in doubt , throttle out. Pin it until you see GOD and then just back off a little.

The new ones for the US will be a good bit different and improved from the Canadian series units. The i MIG 200E has the same duty cycle of the iMIG 205 but doesn't have the stick weld feature or the arc force/inductance control for MIG.

Can anyone chime in on the inductance control for MIG welding? I have no experience with this.
Mark, when will the new US machines be available?
