  1. Default Glenn from GA

User name is Depdog pretty much everywhere I go. I am in McDonough GA. I have been welding with Mig and Arc since high school. I can also oxy/acetylene weld and cut. Still have my old ancient electric AC Buzz box from Lincoln. Put a LOT of hours on it. Welded up everything from 1/2" plate down to the sheet metal floorboards of a friends old Mustang. Have had numerous migs of 110 and 220 configs. Even had a plasma cutter at one time. If you have not learned this yet, NEVER sell of tools because you end up buying them again!

Just ordered a Powertig 185 as it fits most of what I need. If I find myself needing more, I will probably sell it to a good friend and upgrade to the 200DX or 255.

This will be my first ever tig, I am very excited to get started welding and building again. I love to work with metal. Already got my argon, some filler rod for aluminum, steel, and stainless as well as built some nice rod holders out pvc and should have my $35.00 Harbor Freight cart here to modify on Monday. Welder is supposed to be here the 27th. I have had a nice Speedglass helmet sitting at home waiting patiently for the last 2 years. I picked it up at a local pawn show for a steal at $100.00

Looking forward to trying out a contest or two here if they keep them going.

    Thanks
    GlennV

You stole that helmet for sure. Wish I had that luck, but I have on my tanks

Welcome aboard. The 185 will probably handle all most people would need. If you have done any O/A welding, TIG will probably come pretty naturally for you.

    Hi Glenn,

Also congrats on the new 185, you will love it! I have a 205S Multi process (tig, stick, plasma) and am having a blast with it… Small world too, I have family in McDonough, am from Augusta originally myself but have been out of state for 30 years now ;-(…. Oh and Mike, I didn’t realize you were in GA, that’s cool, always assumed you were west coast..

Anyway, very cool, enjoy your new TIG machine; make some cool SH-T! and let us know how she runs..

    Take care and happy holidays

Both Mark and I are on the East coast. Ray and Oleg are on the other coast. Duncan and Jean run the great white North land (Canada). And many others as well
