Thread: OH!!! I REALLY Screwed-Up Today.... :(

  1. Default OH!!! I REALLY Screwed-Up Today.... :(

Soooo, I put the torch down for a while, Shut off the cooler, Left the welder running, and found I had more time than I thought and wanted to complete a couple more joints.

BUT, neglected to turn the COOLER BACK ON

I melted my nice superflex cable in the 250A CK Torch (CK225SF - 25') I can't be the first guy to do this...

Does anyone know if I can just buy the Orange Water/Power hose alone? I've examined the Gas & Supply hoses and they look fine.

    How Screwed am I?

Pretty sure you can get one. Don't know for 100% though. You also can get a DINSE connector with a fuse block...which costs a good bit of extra $$. This will blow if do something like this again.

My old boss blew out three power cables within a week on a brand new Syncrowave. For two different reasons, but it still boils down to the same thing. You either need to have a fuse block, a coolant flowmeter in the welder, or wire the cooler to come on with the welder. Forgetting to turn the gas on is embarrassing, but pretty painless, forgetting the cooler is a meltdown. Yes, you can get replacement power cables. They usually go first but there is also a slim chance of torch damage from lack of coolant, so check it out good when you have it apart. Check for proper coolant flow and any leaks.

225PCSF is the part number you want. You can get it from anyone who sells CK.

So I see a good reason to hookup the water cooler to the welder so when the welder comes on the cooler also comes on my 255EXT and 250EX do. My old Hobart and Miller I hooked up that why after I smoked one and said not again. But I did and it was not my fault a friend came over to get a part welded in a rush so I said OK he said can I watch you, I gave him a helmet then started to weld I was pushing good amps and then I heard a pop and hiss so I stopped to see and the line blow he was standing on the torch line stopped the water flow all I get from him is OPS sorry.
It was a CK torch and I did get just the power line only.

I swear I replied to this thread. Zoama's information sums it up though. I would state that you can buy a connector from CK from elsewhere or through us, that includes a fuse block protection...that will blow out if your water stop flowing to save the torch. However, these are pretty pricey. Not sure if it is something you want to consider...

Whew.... This is Great! Not "too screwed" at all, really relived to find it's only a $45.00 mistake

I like the idea of a Fused Dinse, wouldn't make sense if it cost more than buying 2 power hoses more though - hehehe My next purchase is going to be a 150 AC FlexLoc and, since I'd be buying another Dinse for IT, could I just use my current WC Dinse on the AC torch (without the coolant connection) and purchase the Fused WC Dinse to replace it? Then it's just the upgrade cost not replacing the one I already have...

My cooler is an old Miller Cooler 1 and it makes a racket (all that gear-to-gear noise) and the reason I shut it off after a couple of mins when I can (but always want the welder to run longer for a good cool-down). I first thought to repair the hose, but the connections are impossible to make, and was AMAZED at how Tightly that wire was in the hose. So little room for coolant, no wonder they want 65psi from the cooler, it's the only way to get through it!
