Thread: New 250 EX--Neither Rain nor Snow nor Dark of Night......But UPS--Oh yes!!

  1. Default New 250 EX--Neither Rain nor Snow nor Dark of Night......But UPS--Oh yes!!

My 250 EX finally showed up. Big Brown dropped off a big brown box at my house.......as soon as they could get through the ice and snow that brought NC to a halt last week. It sat for three days in the UPS depot in Greensboro, NC...just 45 miles from my house...while transmitting a daily advisory that said " Weather Delay"....."Weather Delay"....."Weather Delay".........ad infinitim.

Anyway, it finally showed up one afternoon. I guess Big Brown got tired of looking at it and decided it needed to move to another place where it would be in someone else's way. I was more than pleased to see it..!!!

Naturally, as soon as I unboxed it I tried to find a Nema 6-50P plug....to no avail. None to be had in the local area. So, off to order one. Amazon guaranteed 2 day shipping with my Prime membership, so I placed the order along with a few more things expecting it to arrive yesterday. First indication of a problem was yesterday morning with an email from Amazon saying that my order had been held up in Kansas somewhere because of an issue with UPS vehicle (truck or plane or..??) and to expect a one day delay.......Oh well, what's one more day..?? So imagine my surprise when I received another email this morning saying that UPS would NOT be delivering my order and would instead be returning it to Amazon..??? What the he**????? Yep, that's right, another call to Amazon trying to find out what was going on.....

It took me about 20 minutes on the phone with a man named Mark who did his best to figure out the problem. In all fairness to Amazon...this was not their problem. And I want to go on record here by saying that Mark was very helpful and in the end, he managed to solve the issue for me, which made me even happier to do business with them.

So, What happened.?? Let me tell you.!! I placed the order and paid for it (about 60 some dollars..) and waited patiently for it to arrive. Within a few hours the tracking information indicated it had shipped on was on its way. That's where the trouble started. It arrived at a UPS facility in Kansas day before yesterday where it was due to change trucks or planes or something. While it was sitting happily in its spot, my box of items was somehow exposed to a surplus of flames and was destroyed by FIRE!! ...along with several other boxes, packages, etc. Evidently it was a small, localized fire that did no real damage to the facility...but several customers will not be receiving their UPS deliveries.!! The sad part about all of this is.....UPS could have notified me about what happened. But noooo.....They just said that my package was "not deliverable" and was being returned to Amazon. Which, of course, was also a lie. Mark at Amazon found out the truth by calling UPS as the shipper and they told him about the fire and that the package had been destroyed and disposed of. They had in fact already sent a claim form to Amazon for the order number in question......but would anyone tell me about it..!!!!?? He** NO!! Anyway, Mark and I had a laugh about it once we figured it all out. He quickly processed a refund for me, reordered the product and got it shipped fastest way for me. So all it cost me was a couple of days time and one headache.

So thanks to Mark at Amazon for the help, and maybe by Monday or Tuesday I will be able to give a preliminary report on my new 250 EX.!!

Well, that's all I have to report from the Old North State this evening. May peace be with you..

Default New 250 EX--Neither Rain nor Snow nor Dark of Night......But UPS--Oh yes!!

Nice story - hope things start going more smoothly with the next installment, though.

PS - The big box stores (like Home Depot and Lowes) are a good source (and probably local to many, for instant gratification) for a range of 30-50 amp plugs popular for welding machine applications.

Home Depot and Lowe's both have them by the barrel full. 60.00? yikes...That's 17.00 plug! 22 for a really good one.

IIRC, when I got mine a while back, they were quite a bit cheaper at Amazon than the big boxen.

UPS does have some creative excuses for not delivering on time, I checked tracking after a package didn't show up as scheduled and found "LATE TRAIN" in the comment field...
Penncrest Buzzbox - Infinite amp control! Man the 70's were good.
Everlast Powerplasma 60 - Reliable unit, cuts well.
Everlast i-MIG 250P w/spoolgun - Really smooth, plenty of cajones.
Everlast 250EXT - Sometimes it just takes a kick in the balls...
Everlast 255EXT - Just started playing

I was thinking the same, and hoping the $60 included a couple plugs and a receptacle or two for making an extension cord.

Guess I will stop complaining about plugs costing $20 locally.

    Oh.....you guys are such jokers...!!!

I might have fallen off the turnip truck.....but I didn't fall off yesterday..!! As I said, and as #zoama585 so patiently pointed out, there were several other items in the order as well. I actually paid only 14.99 for the plug but the other five items brought the package total up to 60.55....

And yes, I am aware that the big boxes usually have these plugs on hand.....Unfortunately, there isn't one close to me (about 45 miles..) so the cost for gas both ways would have added another $18.00 or so to the price.....easier (and a LOT cheaper..) to just order it. Except in this case, as #Geezer pointed out "sh** happens."

So, I guess it will be Monday before I can fire up the 250 EX....That's okay. I waited this long. Another day or two won't kill me.!!
