Thread: Ordred my tig and plasma yesterday

  1. Default Ordred my tig and plasma yesterday

Put in an ordr for a power tig 250 EX and a power plasma 50. Got a tig kit with extra tungstens and stuff, a sight wheel and plasma consumables all for less then I can get a Lincoln precision 225 for! Have to admit I'm somewhat nervous but very excited to start using them. Big thanks to Jean in Ontario for her product knowledge and friendly service.

Should be welding by this time next weekend,

    Tig Kid

If you want to use the water cooled torch you absolutely need one.

You need it, otherwise you will kill the provided water cooled torch right after start trying to use it. And IF you use an air cooled torch you can only use up to 200 amps without overheating the torch. Would have been better of with the 200dx.

You can use the garden hose method to cool your torch as many do. Most of my welding is under 150 amps so I use a CK 130 gas cooled torch for that.

All of the ways to put water to the welder are all OK done it and it is just a lot of work if you remember to turn it on or even off, have the water running all night could cause problems somewhere down the line. The 250EX is a nice machine I like mine Good luck with it.

I forgot to mention that I swapped the water cooled torch for an air cooled. I was told it can handle the amperage. I bought a stand from Canadian tire that was on sale for $50, have a little electrical work to do in the shop for a power receptacle and should be ready to go when it shows up. Bring on the metal...

You got an Air Cooled Torch, that can handle 250A, for $50?

I think you're in for a rude awakening...

    Nope! read again...

The only air cooled torch that I can think of that'll safely go to 250 amps is the CK series torches ( and that at a lower duty cycle).

The CK210 is rated for 200 amps AC/DC at 100% duty cycle.
I use a CK130 for everything under 150 amp and the CK210 for everything else.

I guess a little more info is required. This tig is for my garage, I will not be running it for extended periods of time at high amperage and if I happen to get it a little hot once in a while I can sit back, relax and carry on. But if I eventually go to a water cooled torch thanks for all the info.
