  1. Default New MTS 250S 802 Error

I bought an MTS250S from Amazon this week. I live in Florida Keys so Amazon Prime is my best friend. Received it on 2/19. Unboxed and hooked up stick. Set AF to 50 and current to 130. Welding 3/8" plate with 1/8" 7018. Upon striking stick on plate, welder would stop functioning and amber light comes on with 802 displaying in window. Only way to try again is to cycle power. I called Everlast and left message. A nice fellow named Ray I believe called me back and said no love, send it back and get replacement. Got replacement yesterday and did same procedure with same settings. Same problem. Could Amazon have bad batch? Sent tech@everlastwelders.com and email for advisement. Also front bezel cracked all over (see attached). UPS isn't always the most gentle with their packages. Any feedback appreciated. Need welder to perform as expected. This unit was $1500 on Amazon.

If you you are sticking the electrode on the plate, it is possible that it will do that, especially if more than 1 seconds. What are your settings? Are you using EP? On the cracked bezel, I dont' think I've seen one on an MTS. That is definitely something you need to remedy with Amazon.

Also have you checked your input power across the terminals? What is your power source? Are you by chance using a generator?

Thanks Kempy. Glad to hear you like it. What was your issue? Do you have a link to your thread?

Performance, as far as settings go, I set AF to 50 and current to 130. Welding 3/8" plate with 1/8" 7018 rod. Watched Jody do his review and set AF at 77. No dice. As soon as I drag the rod, I get a little spark and then nothing but amber light. I don't even get the chance to get the rod stuck. I am plugged into same plug that normally has a XMT 300cc running fine, so I know its not the shop. Yes its EP. How do I check input power across terminals? BTW guys thanks for any assistance. Going to try Tig and Mig tonight to see if that is affected.

It DOES matter. An XMT has power factor correction and can handle lower voltage and dirty power supply. It makes a huge difference. To measure power input, you simply stick the prongs of your Volt meter into the two hot legs of the receptacle... preferably with one hand for safety and do it at your own risk.

I still have the original machine and the second machine. I measured the voltage like Mark asked.

Have you tried a smaller rod? Lower amps? Lower Arc force? If so, what is the threshold where it won't do it (if it won't) Just trying to isolate possible causes and improve our chances of being able to get this resolved without any more back and forth shipping. Have you tried any other processes? I would also look really good at the ground. Are you using the standard leads/lengths sent with the unit?

Colddainhell this the link to the problem I had they did change the machine it was one of the first machines that Everlast got in Canada but it would weld it never stop altogether and I did not try stick with it. You are on your second machine with the same problem hard to believe that you would get two with the same problem did you check to see if they sent you back the same machine again. The MTS250S is a very nice machine the Mig weld like a Tig in steel and aluminum when you get it set up right. You will find job I have put on the site.

Mark. Attached is the voltmeter reading from the outlet. It was steady at 240 for the whole time. What should I try next?

I will try lower AF and amps. Only have 1/8" 6010 and 7018 right now.

After trying the Mig and Tig functions with same problem. I found the source of the overloading. Apparently the bezel in the rear with the fan was also damaged during shipping and the fan bracket/housing is broken. I did not notice this until hooking up the gas cylinder. The fan does not even spin up. I am going to return both and try to get one that can be shipped with out taking a ground and pound from UPS.

    Thanks for everyone's help.

Perhaps the machine has a safety cutoff that prevents it from running if the fan isn't spinning. Either way, I wouldn't accept either unit given the cosmetic (and who knows what else) damage.

I finally received an Everlast MTS250S from Amazon that did get beat up by Mike Tyson. I am happy to report that all functions are working as expected. I do have one question as to the difference between a Mig 15 and Mig 25 torch. The first and second machines came with a Mig 25 and the third came with a Mig 15. The torch looked smaller. Can anyone shed any information?

    It should have 25 or 24 series...definitely not a 15. 15's are good for a max of 180-200 amps.

Nice to see you got everything sorted out with the MTS250S now you can do some welding good luck with it I like mine was using it today welding a titanium exhaust pipe for a guy that cut a hole in it with a torch trying to take the valve out of it.

I don't want to send this whole unit back. I am assuming the packaging department made a mistake? Can Everlast ship me the correct torch?

You'll have to call Everlast directly to discuss it.
