A new customer here, first time with a welder that wasn't blue or red! I've been welding since 1957 when the traveling salesmen started to show up in farmyards with AC crackerbox welders which changed the world of farm implement repair. My present setup is a Lincoln square wave 275, used primarily for tig welding stainless and aluminum. I repair everything from sugaring equipment to large farm machinery, and fabricate stainless tanks and strainers for dyeing fibre.
My latest purchase is a PA 140st which was intended to increase portability for those jobs where there's no other way to get a big machine there. My first choice was a Maxstar 150, but the huge price differential made me consider something less expensive since it would be used fairly sparingly.
I'd like to say at the beginning that my experience with Everlast customer service has been great! The first unit seemed to have a problem right out of the box, the arc was extremely unstable and the over temp/ duty cycle lamp flashed at approximately 1 cycle per second. The current varied over a wide range and the arc could not be sustained. The C.S. tech advised sending it back, and I now have another unit which exhibits the same symptoms. I will not continue the saga here, but will post a thread under TIG welding in the hopes that someone can explain my on-going problems.
Looking forward to an easy answer, Neil
