Hey! My posts are being deleted. I guess that is what being 'on probation indefinitely' means.
I'd really like to see your work..... without the snide arguments, and posturing. Maybe just state the simple parameters and let the work speak for itself. Get to know people better.
If you decide to post your work, large pictures would be nice for those of us who don't see as well as they use to.

I see only one (1) post that "was" deleted that you left in this thread. And I see the admins name that removed it. And I know them quite well so I am sure it was probably a waste of peoples time to read (or the New Webster's word is probably "drama").
I am with Zoama, I saw some of your work with the IMIG200, and stuff I would not have tried with my IMIG200 as I know the specs. That machine "for me" is a portable, lower power, machine. Not saying it will not do it. But for me, if I don't break my welders I make money.
Also agree big pictures, so I do not need cheaters at the computer too.

Adios. To The Gary and kempy best to you, you guys are the salt and the kind of folks that I'd love to have a beer with any day.
Those that are interested in aluminum boat building you must read this:
http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/met...ats-50445.html
This guy is a genius. His designs do not appeal to my taste but his approach and skill is astounding. I love the way people parse something in a way that is diametric to my way but opens my eyes to another way of seeing.
My little effort is here:
http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/met...new-50315.html
Wherein I apply my limited knowledge to the craft. BTW, there WILL be discussion of technique that may include what BLUE proscribes. Morin kinda went there but bailed because, unlike me, he's mellow.
This has been interesting and I hope that Everlast sees that there have been a lot of hits to this thread. To stifle a poster for 'drama' is flattering but stupid, frankly.

Yofish, take care and I hope your retirement supplement plan works out for you. I will try to find you and Kevin on some of the other forums. I have learned a lot about miging alum. already from you guys. I have welded alum. many times with mig but welding and making welds with the most strength are 2 different things. I believe this site would be better with the both of you here but it is what it is. I too believe there has been a difference in jargon that has caused more problems than should have. I believe Everlast products are headed down a good road and are a welcome option to the industry. There is no substitute for thousands of hours doing a welding process for gaining knowledge . To me the "spray arc" " short arc " thing was closed minded. What I learned is that the finer adjustment between those two forms is very important to find the max strength of a mig weld in alum. In the past on ocasion I have experienced the foamy pores welds that were mentioned but did not realize what I needed to do to correct it. I will continue on this forum and realize that Everlast tech is not all knowing but also is a good source of help. They build and sell machines and doing a pretty good job. No Company will ever supply use with everything exactly like we want it so there will always be the guy that wants/needs to modify, adapt a product. It is sad that leagle concerns must cloud everything because a few fools spoil the pot. I also believe that fdcmiami caused more problems than anyone on this thread. I have no ill will toward him and I can learn a lot from him too in some areas but it just goes to show that just because we are in a niche does not mean we know everything about that niche . The work done is more important than the tools used to do it. Yofish and fdcmiami are very similar but with different viewpoints. Both feel the need to call a spade a spade, both feel they need to call out another to keep things right. I was the same for many years and in my experience it caused me more problems than it was worth.

I will bring Canadian beer to go with the American beer. Yes I did find your welding very interesting over the ones I got out of my machine it is a lot in the technique and using the right tools to make it work right the machine is not always the problem but the welder and the technique one person can make a perfect weld with it and the other make a mess just knowing how to make it work right.
Working on a push pull gun using a spool gun as the puller, it a lot of work but if it dose do the job it will make aluminum welding easer still looking for a used 30A. Yes Mig welding aluminum is all new to me with the inverters technology did it many years ago but it was not ease now using the MTS250S I am going back to it just for the ease and how fast it is to do a job with it a little more help and I might get close to Yofish's welds.
Yofish quote on post 48 (Hey! My posts are being deleted. I guess that is what being 'on probation indefinitely' means) I hope not you have given some very nice aluminum Mig welding pictures made aluminum welding look like Tig welding.

My last post may have come off sounding a little ruff, but things had broken down at that point to making digs on other forums and a never ending cycle of jabs back and forth. I never wanted to see any of that. I like for us all to share knowledge... then use what we can and ignore the rest. I like working on boats and I'd like to be better at welding aluminum so I'll listen to anyone and try their advice. If it helps me that's great, if it doesn't then no harm done.
I'd like to see all parties involved just forget what happened and start over.

Must have been sleeping not rereading the sentence, it should of said: Words can be taken many way's, but the right way. not Words can be taken many was but the right way. Amazing what one missing letter can do.
Zoama your right, we will learn more not jabbing back and forth because someone made a mistake or was misunderstood by what they wrote. I have been taken back by other peoples comments and it was hard not to say something that I might later regret. I appreciate this forum for what it was made for to help people fix problems or share welding skills and projects they have made welding, cutting or just sharing things.

This was a very interesting thread, (and by the Read Count, I wasn't the only one who felt that way) it's too bad things went the way they did...
Ruffled Feathers,,, Thin Skins,,, despite Yofish's very first claims that he had no desire for this to turn into a pissin' match, it unfortunately did
Plenty of blame to go around, no one was completely at fault and no one completely innocent, that's the nature of posting though, happens all-too-often. With only the written word, no facial expressions or humanity, no "eye" to look at for further interpretation,,,, this is what you can get.
His "deleted" comments restated his desire to reignite things once more...and his dish against Moran for being "mellow" adds further to the flame. I think Mike, and Zoama correctly stated the intent and reason behind the 1 one week cool down. There's no thin skin here, except when is using the wrong terminology. There are clearly defined terms that are accepted throughout the welding industry. The boat building industry (or rather a few 'elite' minded people by their own choosing) do/does not get to "redefine" welding terms to suit their own purposes. IF there is a "misunderstanding" of terms, I can assure you ours, is the correct use of them. A person that does not know enough about the process that uses the wrong, (but clearly defined terms), is also a threat to people learning the process...and a potential liability. Imagine going to the Dr, and he tells you are having "heart failure" and you are actually having a heart attack. Heart failure is a progressive but somewhat treatable disease , but a heart attack is something that requires immediate treatment. What if a "pro" doctor used the wrong term (even though he knew what was happening) and prescribed treatment to the staff "to treat him for heart failure" when the patient was suffering a heart attack? Is this life or death we are talking about in something like welding aluminum? Maybe. Someone who correctly knows what a term really means and interprets the incorrectly used term may cause a structurally unsound weld. Yofish, with his comments, really boiled down to a dog and pony show. Sure a lot of people Gawk, but a lot of people walk on by shaking their head. While Moran and I found common ground once things were defined, it is worth noting he in one of the linked threads referred to using a Lincoln 350MP...which is a welder that functions (if pulse is used) in spray mode as it is programmed to do so in pulse. It does drop to the globular range, but only long enough, for a tiny fraction of a second to cool the metal, but not allow any metal to be deposited (theoretically) It is also worth noting that the AWS has not recognized pulse on pulse as an official process the last I knew, because their testing revealed inconsistent and unreliable results to be an approved process. While no one is saying it won't work, and the welding industry is turning out loads of these units, it also cannot be used for any coded work (as of a couple years ago)....and that is where safety lies, producing repeatable, reliable results under carefully monitored specific processes. Carelessly and willfully using "gobblety gook" language in something and trying to pose as an authority on the subject shows a flagrant disregard to people who are both studious, and wanting to learn how to do things correctly. Yofish claimed he was going to once again continue his crusade. In fact, I have seen the same welds he has done, as everyone has, which he calls short circuit, which are actually spray. There are tell tale signs, including the flow of the metal, the ripples and other things that a person familiar with spray arc can see, that short arc does not produce. While it may be a cooler form, or it may create some popping or whatever, the wire is generally running in spray arc mode. It does not give him license to redefine very specific terms.
What should be done is to give out settings, and specific parameters, for all to judge, see and test, rather than trying to (pardon the pun) "showboat". That is the real crux of the matter. Anyone can assert themselves as an authority on a subject, and even post impressive results. It reminds me of a mechanic I once heard that took a hammer to a starter and hit it. It started working. He said"fixed it". ...But... Did he really? Is that the definition of fixed? The results and the showmanship were undeniable...but is that a reliable method? I think the analogy is valid.

I have no dog in that fight. The boats I like either have sails with them or a mud motor behind them.

Zoama,
I think the issue is that Yofish is a proud boat builder. No doubt. I don't presume to know enough to guide him through the complexities of an undertaking such as that...A jon boat maybe. But between a boat builder, and say someone who is a true welder and fabricator formally trained like Jody Collier, who knows his stuff in generally everything, that can boil it down to the basics, there is a difference, and a difference in what you can learn. If you want to know about proper ways to build a boat (or not) that will float, Yofish and Kevin Moran can be a good source...but for correct and accurate knowledge in welding, they may know how to get results, but use incorrect terms and methods in relaying the information to others. A key to being a good educator is being able to accurately and simply relay information. I assume Yofish's intention was to educate, but his words and methods were "as ugly as fido's butt", to borrow a descriptive but accurate phrase from Jody.
Personally, I've not only had the formal training in all the major welding methods, but I've also had a lot of experience before and after to back it up...from welding on crews, to welding on farms to portable repair to custom fabrication to metal art. Made money in all of it. I've been on both sides of welding perspective for that matter (knowing how to...and knowing the reason why). But now, I serve in an advisory role with the regional welding college , and have operated my own welding business for sometime. Though my business comes second place to my work with Everlast now, I have several areas of expertise that I know and can advise in construction techniques and general fabrication as well...from building sawmills to trailers to farm equipment... to name a few... But when it comes down to knowing everything, no welder knows that, no matter the schooling or experience. But one exclusively without the other is a dangerous thing to have to rely on.

I am sure it would be TIG'd together (Just because he can...if he can weld a Delta Jet together... who needs MIG?) And it'd see plenty of party barge activity on Lake Lanier.

Setting up a new computer, I checked out how my bookmarks imported and for some reason I clicked on this page. I was shocked to see EXACTLY 5k hits. I wish I was in Vegas. I think sometime back I said adios to the nonsense of trying to deal with Mark and others that I thought were missing the point. Anyway, in the spirit of this thread getting all the interest here is a pic of the last job I did with the little Miami Rat Welder, which, performed flawlessly. This is an old Raider Marine bow well seine jitney that I modified to be used in a mariculture business as a mussel declumping and sorting barge. Absolutely funky aluminum made it a challenge. The main hold and outboard well got decked over and lots of penetrations plugged. I can't find a pic of the finished product right now but I will and show it. None of this needed to be put together in the magical-only-way-to-weld-aluminum-spray-mode. I only crowded the little guy once. I could go on about how 'spraying' old funky AL is not the best method but I'll stop. The important thing for me is that this machine continues to do what I intended: it has been left at that site since the Middle of August, I carry on in the shop because I don't need it. When I return to retrieve it I know the client will want some mods.
