Thread: PA 160STH Displaying Incorrect AMPS

  1. Default PA 160STH Displaying Incorrect AMPS

    Hi Everyone!,

I was hoping someone could help me out with this. I have been using my 160STH for Stick only for around 3 months with absolutely no problems. I got my argon cylinder on wednesday, started using the tig mode and on friday I started my machine on 110V and the amps displayed on the screen were 432 amps (WTF??) I turned it off and back on and again said something around 400amps but started fluctuating between about 180 and 430 amps (on the screen). I unplugged it from the 110V outlet and plugged it on 220V and it worked as expected, however yesterday I started having the same problem on 220V and now I can't seem to be able to get it to work again. I tried welding and it does weld well and the arc is stable, it will appear that the problem is only on the display side.

Anyone has any ideas what it could be?

    Thanks everyone for your help.

So I called tech support today and I was asked to send the machine back, but since I am located in Costa Rica that is my last option. Ray was very helpful and he suggested a few things I should try first. The first thing I did was check the connections going to the display. I disconnected the connections, cleaned them and put them back on and everything is back to normal now. I'm assuming I was not having a good connection on one of the cables. I'm glad it wasn't anything more critical.

I'm glad you got it working. Shipping would be expensive.

    Congrats!!

Should've burned some 1/4 7024 while you had the 400amps....
If it wasn't for the last minute, nothing would get done
