Thread: Took delivery of 250ex, what do I need to check?

  1. #1

Default Took delivery of 250ex, what do I need to check?

Got my 250ex and w300 in today and if I recall reading some threads somewhere on line there were some connections or fittings I should check before operating the machine post shipping?

If I need to check gaps I also have the ability to do that as well.

Outside of that I will need to figure out what fittings I need to get to connect my ck20 up less the dins connector which I already purchased.

I have an unboxing video I can post up some time tomorrow or later today if anyone is interested to see what comes with both from everlast direct.

Hey, CallMeBurton, welcome to the forums! Congrats on the 250ex and cooler!

The machine should be plug-and-play, for the most part. You may need to install a plug, although Everlast has been shipping with NEMA 6-50 plugs installed already. Even if the CK20 requires some massaging to get running, the stock torches should also just plug and play.

Do you have tungsten, filler, and argon already?

What part of NoVA are you? I'm near Reston.

I actually made a post on my blog about everything I purchased already http://callmeburton.com/welding/weld...-been-a-while/

I still need to get an argon tank. I have been scouting around for LWS open on Saturdays which can supply gas and will fill and sell customer owned tanks. I read somewhere Acret is likely the best option but they are 9-5 M-f only. And the welding table comes tomorrow.

It seems I will need another quick connect adapter for the cold water inlet and the gas inlet on the CK20 torch. The Dinse adapter came with one for the hot water and it seems to be reverse threaded on the water connectors.

    I am sitting around woodbridge.

I saw the blog, looks like you're getting geared up. There's a Roberts Oxy in Springfield, which may be a touch closer than Manassas (Arcet). I think (not sure) they're also M-F only. If you find Arcet is easier to work with let me know!

This is what I heard back from Acret when I emailed them. What does RO offer? I wonder if any of these outfits will deliver without setting up future delivery or accounts for large numbers of bottles.

80 cf Argon $222 bottle and contents. $38.50 for subsequent refills
155 Argon. $62 annual lease $35.83 first fill
    336 Argon. $62 annual lease. $74.31 1 st fill

Note they only sell customers 80 CF tanks, anything larger is lease only.

Annual lease from Roberts is $83... maybe I should think about a change. The Arcet argon prices are likely in line- I don't remember specific prices. Roberts also considers anything bigger than 80 cf a lease only.

Try searching your local Craigslist with "argon (bottle|cyl*|tank)"; in my area, a 200cf can be had for $150 or less. At worst, you might find an 80cf cylinder for much cheaper; at best, maybe you'll find a 220 or 330cf. Check with your LWS to see how they handle recertification - mine will take it in swap for no fee or charge like $15, so not a big deal either way.

Arcet also said they wouldn't fill customer owned tanks above 80 CF RichardH

I have seen several tanks on craigs but most are tiny. Wonder if I need to look farther south for the tank / gas supplier.

I've seen some 80cf bottles of helium, argon, and nitrogen on CL. I'm not clear if the LWSs around here will accept any inert gas 80 and swap you a full argon for it.

    CallMeBurton,

The Method To The Madness is that with some brands of water cooled TIG torches and water coolers the water fittings have left handed threads and the inert gas fittings have right handed threads. There are also instances where the quick couplings for the inert gas are larger or smaller than the water quick couplings.

The DINSE fittings that have a water line in them seem to be a bit too complicated. Everlast seems to make it simpler to use separate DINSE for power, gold ( brass color ) quick couplings for inert gas, red for the hot return water, and blue for cold water supply.

Not quite so good for the color vision impaired and color blind people where left handed water right handed inert gas fittings would be better. Usually, somebody with the Short Red Gene ( reduced red sensitivity ) or Deuteranomaly ( yellow receptors instead of green receptors ) or missing red receptors or missing green receptors can distinguish red from blue but problems distinguishing red from yellow. There are 3 color blind or color vision impaired electricians running around the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, Ohio area.

Since I have perfect color vision I would rather use color coded quick connects to make things easy.
