    Default 30A fitted to MTS250S

I fitted a 30A to my MTS250S to use .045 wire and .062 it works just fine thanks to Yofish to tell me which 30A to buy. Cut the end off the power and put it on to the EURO end just and a brass fitting to join then together. Cut the plug off and rewired it to the MTS250S plug. Set the welder to old spec's and did a test run adjusted the setting and welded heaver aluminum come out just fine and the gun did not even get hot.

I used the original gas fitting and got a Y manifold with shut off valves on it. One is for the 30A and the other for the welder at the back for the Tig and Mig. Spool gun has 30 foot line can go a long way around the shop.

Nice job on the retrofit. I am wanting to buy a 250S myself. I take it that the spool gun from everlast will not take .045 wire? If that is so I might have to do a retrofit myself. I have used nothing but .045 wire in my spoolmatic 3. I have done some pretty thin stuff with it and like yofish, I believe The .045 gives better control.

The Everlast spool gun worked just fine but could not drive the .045 4043 aluminum easily like the 30A needs the drive rollers from a 30A to keep it from slipping.

This was a good fine for $300.00 the 30A is so smooth and it did not even get hot at 220A and 25V welding aluminum for 10 minutes yesterday forgot to take picture's of the job. The MTS250S ran like a dream.

The MTS250S uses the wire speed on the gun and it is a 10K pot and the MTS250S uses a 10K pot to run the SM200 Spool Gun on the side of it. The 30A was a very ease hookup just had to get the wires diagram for both and rewire the plug and put the power line on the Euro connector. If you need the wiring diagrams I have them.

Nice, I would like the wire diagrams if its not too much trouble. I won't be doing the retrofit for a while but I would like the diagrams so I have them when the time comes. I am in the middle of revamping my shop now. So between work that comes in and working on the shop its pretty busy.

Kempy, the next step is to mate up a complete feeder system, i.e., a Miller (or similar, they all function pretty much the same) XR box. It's been a zillion years ago but recall that was one of the reasons I went down this path; first to see if Everlast was worth crap and if so, be able to expand their platform to be useful for my needs. I think they (Everlast) are missing a good bet by not being helpful in turning their platforms into something that could expand sales. I can tell you that none of my welder buds that are serious production people would EVER consider an Everlast power supply if it couldn't drive a serious box/gun. Take your pick: Miller, Lincoln or MK. For me, the 'worth a crap' question has been answered in the affirmative. From my admittedly small leap of faith, if all things be equal, I'm quite surprised at the quality of the two Everlast machines I have and the service (so far) that I've received. I've pushed the crap out of the little rat welder and it just keeps on keepin' on. This is no ####, I prefer it to any machine I have for stick. BUT, I'm entirely a 1/8 to 3/32 guy.

As you have so elegantly demonstrated, it ain't that big of a deal to make it work with a spool gun. No magic there. Congratulations, I know that I'd have not a problem building a boat with your setup. You have a power supply that has the 'stones' and now you have a gun to match it. I've also said this several times before: I've hooked up numerous combinations of boxes/guns to a crazy quilt of power supplies ALL with the help whoever I was dealing with, ALL helpful and did so with cheerful willingness. EVERLAST guys, listen up.

Also, do not think that the 30A is not a capable steel welder! You may find that you'll retire that Binzel but for bench work. However, as bad as my wrists are, the spoolgun weight is just too much.

sounds like Everlast needs to make some new style drive rolls for their spool gun. Then the retrofit might not be needed. Unless of course a person already owns a perfectly good spool gun already . which is the case many times with customers that have been welding for some time. Also lets face it sometimes it just doesn't pay to reinvent the wheel when an outstanding product already exists and is widely used.

Same drive rolls that fit the miller guns up to the 200 will/should fit.

I found it on Kijiji looked for a will then one came up. Have to put in 30A, Spoolgun, Spool Gun, or Miller Spoolmate 30A.

The drive roll did fit the SM200 but I did some test with and it had a hard time feeding the .047 5356 wire the gun is only designed for .030"/0.80mm wire and it is a 60% duty cycle also the SM200 will work fine when I am doing steel because the 30A is sold and made for aluminum and soft metal to run at 100% duty cycle at 200Amps. it will push .062 5356 aluminum wire and soft metal wire up to .045.
The 30A starting price is at:$ 1,273.00 US and up the SM200-N is $325.00 CA.

Yes, after looking at the Everlast spool guns , they do not have near the duty cycle of the 30A . I had not looked at the spool gun line up before now so I did not realize that they are that light of duty. I will probably adapt my spoolmatic 3 to the 250s machine. Since I already have it and the only befit of the 30A over the 3 is that the spool holder rotates. Also it is built like a tank and can take a lot of abuse and still keep ticking. The 3 has the same 14 pin connector so the wiring will be the same as the 30A. I will probably make a short adapter cable for it and keep the 14 pin setup on the 3 since I use it on my trailblazer 302 and my millermatic 200 also , depending on where I am and what I am doing. After I get the 250S the MM200 will stay in my shop and the 250S will take its place in my trailer for more portable needs. If I find a smoking deal like you did then I will get a 30A

Here's a brand new 30A with the HD air cooled tube for $775+ shipping but they only have one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Item-for-signman1960-/251568732773?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a92aa 3a65
Maybe Everlast will find a heavy duty spoolgun to add to it's lineup soon.

A niche market does not necessarily mean that it is sufficient an sustainable once the "pipeline" is full. We have to look at the big picture. The Guns we sell come off the same assembly line that the Miller Spoolmate series comes off of. Same, if not better duty cycle, same parts...on the 3035 and smaller 100 series gun. The Barrel is different on the 200 but the drive roll should be the same as the Spoolmate 200. These guns are (its not a secret) manufactured by North in China. North manufacturers OEM trafimet, which sells the same gun too, and for Miller and a host of others. Its an extremely well built product overall. Spool guns ( as many of you know) are largely an American thing. Much of the world uses a simple teflon liner and suitable wire and welds with the main wire feeder. We seem to see and have problems where other places accept it and find a way of doing it. I am not saying that we are ignoring the possibility of having a bigger gun, but due to the lack of worldwide demand, China doesn't have a wealth of spool gun manufacturers, and the 200 a unit is about as big as it comes.
