    Default My First Project

Hi all. Let me start by saying I Never took a Metal working or Welding class before. I did have a woodworking class. And a Diploma from the county Vocational for Auto Mechanics.

My Project is an adapter to use my Motorcycle jack to lift the front end of a JD lawn tractor. By grabbing the frame. So the tires are free for service work. Its not complete yet. Still need to weld the legs to the base. Grind, Sand. And thinking about painting with JD Green.

I am using 1/4" Steel plate for the Base and "Saddle" 16 Gauge Sq. Tube for the Legs and supports.

    What do you all think??

I like it. I need to build something to lift my mower so that I can service it easily. Welcome to the forum.

You're getting a lot of altitude, that's for sure.

Hello. Thanks all. It sat up on the lift for about 1/2 hour. The Base is going to be removable from the motorcycle lift. The lift came with Extenders that have Pins that hold them in place. What I did is to drill 5/8" holes (Size of the pin) in the 1/4" base. Cut down 4 5/8" bolts. Welded them in place from underneath. Stability was achieved by using some of the scrap 1 1/4" Sq. Tube and welding it to the front side of the frame. The Frame was sitting on top of the 2 5/8" bolts in the front. I didn't weld it yet. Trying to figure out what Voltage and Wire speed to use. 16 Gauge to 1/4" plate. I am thinking 4 or 5 on the I Mig. 140E. And Wire feed just under half. Unless you guys can recommend better??

    Thanks
