Your also going to loose some because of the Bracket the tool sits in. I would say probably about 1" to 1 1/2"

I went ahead and bought one, have a old Makita with no guard to put on it and I can go 5". Then next thing I know over $120, thanks Ram.. Killed one item as the order had shipping over that one item.

Will see how it works, but for the price I can't make one.

    That's what I figured, too.

This is the version I might spend the time to make or modify something else into.

I ordered one myself. Thinking maybe I can get a Refurbished 4 1/2" Dewalt to mount? I am not using my VS Makita for this.

Could buy a cheap HF chop saw for the base, then mod for the portable band saw. Throat is large too. Nice, thanks for the idea.

    Still Waiting for the Blade.

I did receive the Refurbished Dewalt 4 1/2" grinder from Tyler Tool. Came with a New Grinding Disc. Ordered it Friday afternoon. Arrived on Tuesday. Hopefully it will fit the Northern cut off saw adapter

According to UPS, The Saw adapter should arrive on Friday.

Now I am MAD. Just saw the ACE ad for next week. The Dewalt DWE4011(Refurbished) I ordered from Tyler Tool, A New model is on Sale. For the same price. Actually cheaper with Tax and no shipping charge.

Well, the Northern Tools stuff came in. The mini chop fit the HF $9.95 4.5" grinder with no problem. After attaching and tweaking, it was a good choice as it will stay attached. Will not be pulling it off and putting it on, for sure.

I am off tomorrow, so I will make a couple cuts. The pics I took are on drop box but do not have it install on this new laptop. But not much to see. Hope I use it. We will see.

Not bad. Showed up today, and is a mix of cast iron and aluminum. The iron base gives it enough weight that it sits on a bench without wanting to fall over at the slightest touch. The vise jaws are kinda short, but that is needed to give good clearance. Lots of adjustments, so I would imagine almost any grinder can be mounted, as long as it has threaded holes for side handles. It came with 10mm bolts which fit Hitachi and others, along with 8mm for DeWalt and others, and 6mm for ?. If you have a really old made in the USA grinder, you might have to supply your own USS/SAE bolts. The fit of most parts are sloppy, but that is both good and bad. With some tweaking you should be able to get it adjusted to cut true with almost any grinder, even if things are not all machined square. I have yet to use a square and indicator to make any fine adjustments, and just eyeballed it for now, but I can see that there is plenty of room to get it all dialed in. The added guard is just plastic, so I didn't bother to use it. Maybe I'll make a metal one if I fit a larger blade. I think a 5" or 6" blade will make it a lot more useful, if this grinder has enough power to drive it. One thing is that I thought that once it was setup, you could remove and replace the grinder for hand use. Well, if you do, you will lose some of your setup. So I think it's best to dedicate a grinder to this. Overall I'm happy with it. I'll have to see how handy it is over time.

Like I mentioned, grinder is dedicated and not coming off. The HF grinder used 8mm and also they do give you plastic filler plugs too. Not unhappy. Gonna try it tomorrow. And the vise is short like you say, but figure the wheels will shrink up fast no probably not a big deal unless it affects angles.

I left the guard on the grinder and did not use the plastic (if you are lucky) deflector that came with if

So if the wife does not relocated it (built in garage on her dryer by my son). I will grab it and test it out in the AM.

You got your first post in while I was still writing.
This was perfect for the Hitachi with the left side mounted slide switch. Puts it right up front. Not sure how ergonomic a paddle switch one would be. I see the top mounted HF switch has finger room, but isn't ideal. I read where someone used a HF plugin foot switch to make it super quick and easy to use.
I did have to offset mine a little because of where the Hitachi spindle lock button is.

ID:	12441The Dewalt DWE4011 should be fine. The Slide Switch is on the Left side. The way it mounts to the adapter, The Switch would be on top. Facing towards the operator.

Did they cheap out and make the top of the gearbox out of plastic? I have an older version of that style DeWalt but the gearbox is different and all metal.

This switch works OK, but like you said you have to stick a finger in there AND lock it. No bad though, foot pedal is a great idea. The gear head hits the vise and it misses a little travel.

I like that the fixed vise jaw has infinite adjustment instead of just a few fixed places. It makes getting the most clearance, and best blade position, easy.

The replacement blade finally arrived. New 66T for Thick Gauge. When my finances improve, I need to get one for Lighter gauge.

Also the Northern Tools adapter arrived. Haven't had a chance to open it. Too busy working on the plate for the rear wheels. Smoothed it down a little more. Drilled the mounting holes for the casters. Clamped in place. Tomorrow I am doing the plug Welds. Still need to attach the bottom shelf. Not sure if I have enough Gas to do that. I may just drill the holes. And some of the Plug Welds to hold it. Until I can get the tank refilled. On a side note, Just checked the 2 pound roll of .030. Maybe 1/2 Pound left. Should be enough. I have an extra roll just in case.

True, but takes a little time to switch between different size cuts. Guess they have to do that to clear gearbox as well as they did. I had a friend over last night, he played with it and is getting one now. Almost sold him mine with the grinder, since it was a HF grinder. Works fine other than like you said, the switch is not in an good position (grinder issue, not the product).
