Thread: pp 205 plasma don't like being close

  1. Default pp 205 plasma don't like being close

    Hi guys! Gals!
I'm a disabled shakey type and I use the roller standoff on my 45 torch to help me. I keep it approx. 1/16" standoff and it'll fire in the air but once I try to cut into metal the arc goes out. Replsced all internals no change. Took roller off and held it approx 1/4" away and worked fine. I have it regulated to max 90 psi although it does drop when running which I see as normal and other threads also do, prob cause its a 3/8" line. Material was just under 1/4" thick amps were 35. Not plunge cut.
Is it me or a setting as to why it don't like to b close to material. Almost like the arc is blown out by the air when its that close? It didn't cut super great but maybe amps could go up some? Only thing I noticed in consumables was there are some burrs in the black cup where they drilled the little brass air holes that I should prob clear out so it'll flow better. Thanks for help!

1/16" might be a little tight, can you adjust that up a little? 90 psi from your compressor is right, but your machine regulator needs to be set quite a bit lower. Somewhere around 60-75 depending on tip size for that torch as I recall. Did you get the flow setting gauge with that torch? Also 35 amps is pretty low for quarter inch, you might want to crank that up, if you have the large tips.

If you have the air pressure set too high, you are blowing the arc out. Try dropping the pressure to 70ish and increase the amps.

Is there a recommended cutting settings chart with the machine?
Not so obvious and ruthlessly odd.

No cut chart and not in manual so I was kinda doing best guess on my part. I will drop regulator on machine to 65-70psi and go from there. Thanks a lot! Ill have to read some other posts to see what the flow setting gauge is. Does it measure output at torch, if so no.

Have you downloaded this manual? http://www.everlastgenerators.com/si...ies%202013.pdf
First, if you are using too large of a consumable for the unit the arc will go out or be weak. Check your consumable diameter and let us know. You have to match the consumable size with the amps you are using. You need probably a .8. Some of the units are/were shipped with a .8 and some with a .9 mm diameter nozzle. It is stamped on the side.

Make sure the swirl ring is in and clean too. Make sure not pit hole in the end of the electrode. Air should be dry, dry... And of course dial in a good air pressure at the regulator.

I got what I consider a pretty decent manual w mine and after watching hundreds of videos and lots of remeading made notes in it to help me. I will look through the one u posted below and c if it offers more. All the videos and reading I've done , I don't remember ever seeing a cut chart anywhere.
Swirl ring is good. I'm a stickler for cleanliness and upkeep and take excellent care of my stuff cause I want it to operate for a long time cause I can't buy stuff often.
I think my tips are all same size. I looked on ebay gor different sizes but dissappointed they are all the same. What do u guys think about drag tips. Bought some but haven't tried yet. Anything that helps me stady my hands I try. Drag tips seem like they'd help cause I wouldn't have holdoff. But sounds too good to b true. Ill have to find some more sizes.
I looked through manual u posted and didn't c anything that stood out different than mine. I didn't c a cut chart in yours either.

Cut chart? PSI recommendations are there. Always use at 65-75 psi...no less and no more. Actually 72-73 psi is specified for the torch. Or use the flow meter if you have one.
    20 amps up to 1/8"
add 10 amps for every 1/8" over that.

Or, there is no problem running 45-50 amps all the time. The only difference you will see for the most part is a slightly wider kerf, but with a wider nozzle, you'll get that anyway at lower amps...and the apparent behavior you are experiencing too.

The manual I posted online IS THE manual for the unit. Not sure what you got as the factory is supposed to be transitioning all models to our particular manuals. Not much to the ones they include for the most part.

You can drag the tips at/under 30 amps.
