HF Flux Core?

Hi all. I recently bought a 2Lb roll of the HF Flux Core. 0.030". Had a coupon for $15. Saw it was made in Italy. So I figured give it a try. Haven't opened it yet. Thinking about returning it. And sticking with the Hobart brand. However the Hobart is $5-$10 More roll. Has anyone used the HF Flux Core? And what is their opinion? Vs the Hobart or Lincoln brands?

We don't have HF up here but our nearest equivalent also carried an Italian flux core, so probably it's the same. I think it was INE brand ER something ending in GS? It was much worse than the Lincoln stuff: the arc wasn't as well defined and it produced a lot more spatter.
If you're new to welding and need to get some seat time, it's fine. In fact you probably won't even notice the difference at that stage. At the time I swore off of it (burned about 3 or 4 rolls) money was pretty tight, but even so I abandoned a couple rolls I had. Ten years later they're still sitting there unused.
I haven't tried Hobart so I can't comment on that.

Thanks. It was "E71T-GS", 2 Lb. Roll. Same thing I thought. Just Returned it. I may just stick to the Hobart brand when I need FC.

If I find myself shopping for flux core, I usually just scrounge up a big piece of cardboard and some gaffers tape, instead.

There is that, but I was thinking of a wind break so I could use solid wire MIG instead of FC. Or just go to stick welding and be done with it.

hahaha.. Sorry, thought you were making a joke. We have used big sheets of cardboard many times, and no fires, surprised. Stick or MIG would solve the wind.

Yeah, that's the same stuff.

Out here no-one I've found does anything other than rental bottles, so if you're only into occasional welding you get stuck with FC. The bottle costs more than the car you're fixing the rust holes on.
