MTS 250 carried vertically for transport?
I just got back from my winter off in south texas. I put my new mts 250 together for a test run on a field job I had to do on friday. Much better than dragging my MM200 around but It is still bulky with the mig gun on it. I installed a tweco number 4 gun with a 16ft cable so I won't have to lift it for jobs up high off the floor ( a longer one would be better but I was hesitant to go longer than the 16ft) . My question is I am thinking of mounting it to a 2 wheel hand truck for moving it around and hauling it in my trailer. I would use it with the cart laying down and mount a couple swivel casters to the other end of the cart so it could be pulled around while in use. It would sit in my trailer for several days at a time with the back of the welder facing down and the mig gun mount facing up. Is there any reason why this would be bad for the welder? I was also thinking of making the cart adjustable so that the welder would be being operated at about a 30 degree angle for jobs that are up high off the floor. I figured I would put a steel loop close to the front of the welder to keep any side strain off the front case of the welder if I am pulling on the gun cable at an angle. I could disconnect the mig gun every time I am done but I can see that being a hassle I would rather not do. I only used it in the regular mig setting. I need to play with it to feel good about using with all the bells and whistles .
On a side note should the burn back control work when in plain mig mode? I tried to adjust it but the burn back seemed the same no matter where I set the control. As is it leaves too much wire stick out and I have to clip the wire to restart cleanly. I also do not like that every time I turn off the machine I have to readjust everything. I know there is a memory for this and I will need to read up on it. But even then remembering to set the memory every time I turn the machine back on will take a while. I know it is a little thing but it is still aggravating when you climb up a ladder and pull the tigger only to find you are back in stick mode for the default setting.
