I think I need to take a look at the spark gap distance in our 200dx. It has been getting harder and harder to get the arc started on AC. Just wondering if a large spark gap can affect the arc once you are welding?

Also do I just take the front cover off the machine to gain access the the components?

Correct, the point gap is just used for starting, it doesn't affect welding. Most units come apart from the rear panel and top cover.
Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!

clean point surface and sharp edge on points, flat surface, not domed.
