No Amp Control

I have a power-pro 256 purchased on 10/24/12. I have not had any issues with this machine until yesterday. Somehow the amp control knob does not change the amperage. Things I have noticed, the amp control works on cut setting. In the tig/stick setting the display shows the beginning amp control setting knob, Tig it will show 4-193 using the beginning amp knob, stick it will show 16-193 beginning amp knob. Things I have tried unplugging the foot peddle, I have tried reseating the connector and making sure it was tight, I tried using the torch switch. And yes I have made sure that I have the t2/t4 rocker set correctly. Any other things I could try?

I would call into tech support. Are the amps wide open when you try to use it (blowing holes in 1/8" metal plate)? Still on an older bottle of Argon?

No its not wide open, it seems like what ever I change the start amp setting to it will use the entire time. Not sure how old the Argon is, how would the display readout be effected by gas quality?

I was wondering if moisture was in the argon, that will make some amp issues and bad looking welds. So you are saying the up and down slope seem to not be working?

The main Knob that controls Amp does not work, The only knob that seems to change the Amp display is the start amp knob.

I have the same welder, same problem. Purchased the welder on the pre sale. I don't weld much, not a pro. I was mostly Tig welding material about .040" thick, on t2 setting. One day I turned on the machine and didn't have amp control. I found it was stuck on what must have been my last amp setting and the beginning amp setting still works. So, If i turn the amp control knob the readout will not change but it will if i adjust the beginning amp control knob.

No, This is what got me to join this form. Yours was the first post I saw. I thought that was cool but still no easy answers from the past users?
I just went and checked the cut setting and it works in a range of 22-62. My MIG/TIG range with the start amp control is 30-119.

Wow looking like we have the same issue. In cut i get 20-59 and in tig/stick using starting amps i get 4-185.

You should call tech support at ext 207. That's our service line and where to get the answers and receive an RMA number for return for repair. That's the most expedient way to get this resolved as it is likely a board issue.

Thanks, I called service. I was told to unplug everything from my front panel and see what the display reads. I also turned every knob to the left, just because? Turned it back on and now the main amp control knob works. All is good.
