    Default 225 lx issues

I am having some issues with my 225lx and want to make sure I am not doing something wrong. I have used the welder just a few times in the 3 years I have owned it. I am having trouble getting it to arc. I have to touch the metal for it to arc. Also the machine will not get hot enough to make a puddle. What can I check, or what could I be doing wrong.

Check and make sure the unit is in 2T. Points could be dirty as well just from sitting. Make sure you are on HF start for TIG as well.

Sean, they are located near the front. When viewing from the front they are on the left side. If you remove the rear cover, then the metal cover, you will find them mounted to the bottom of the top pan on the left side. They should emit a spark from the front that you can see through the louvers.

I've been pretty busy at work and side jobs; so I finally dug out my 225lx last week. The welder fires up just fine when I use the 2t and 4t switch. I'm guessing it's something to do with the foot pedal. It feels like when I push the pedal to the floor it does not get very hot. The pre flow kicks on just fine. I'm thinking about ordering another pedal which one do I need?

Sean, hope you and your family are well! I think I've read the pedal can slip on its gears. Is it worth taking apart for a possible fix?

    .

I will look at it, but I'm thinking about getting a smaller pedal.

I'm pretty sure this is the pedal I bought for My 225LX but it's been a number of years.

I do know that changing the pdeal as well as upgrading to a better ground clamp both made a world of difference in the performance of my welder.

I've been trying to use my 225lx with the 2t & 4t switch. I am having trouble getting the welder to fire off. It seems that I have to touch the metal before it will start welding. It is acting like there is no high frequency start.

Do you hear any HF buzzing from inside it? Have you checked the point gap?

You can get the exact gap from support, but most are around .030" so that will put you in the ballpark. I haven't seen any photos of the inside of that model, but the points shouldn't be too hard to find. Before you pull the covers off, you might be able to see some arcing from the points through the vent slots, to give you a better idea of where to look. Maybe try a dark room, to help see. Of course if the gap is way out you might not see any spark. You can find some pics of the 250ex points on the forum, to give you an idea of what to look for.

I'm guessing these are the points, I took some fine grit sand paper and cleaned them up. I have not had a chance to use the welder.
