Default Newbie in Hazel Green, Al

Hello from Hazel Green, Alabama. I received my Super Ultra 205 yesterday and eagerly set it up. (I do not have any argon or tungsten so I was not able to use the TIG) I tried the stick welder and the Plasma Cutter. Since I have never used either of these I have no other reference to compare to. Even though I am currently hooked up to 110V I was able to make these work.

I was a little disappointed in the 4 or 5 page broken English manual but was able to get by.

I have a question. I thought I was purchasing a MOSFET machine but somewhere I saw a reference to an IGBT unit. I guess it does not matter to me... but just curious....

Welcome to the forum. Be sure to download the online version of the manual. You will find it's much better than what's in the box.

The online manual says mosfet. "IGBT Inverter Technology" is just part of the Everlast logo.
I suggest 3/32 2% lanthanated tungsten to cover most of your tig welding and the largest argon bottle you can handle.
    I buy my tungsten from weldingcity.com http://www.weldingcity.com/tungsten-...thanated-blue/

    zoama,

Thank you for the information. I am getting some 3/32 tungsten.... just have not ordered it yet.... I need to get the Argon but was thinking of the #2 bottle.... mainly because of price but also it is shorter... I am not a pro.... just a hobby welder... I started with the wire feed welder from HF.... decided to upgrade to do some sheet metal work on my 1965 VW.... now I have to learn how to TIG weld... LOL!!

I recommend going to your local steel supplier and buying a 21' stick of 2" flat 11 gauge (1/8") cold roll, 9 gauge (3/16") would be even better to practice. The cold roll steel doesn't have any mill scale to clean off before welding. Cut 4" pieces to practice running a bead with no filler. Once you've got that sorted move onto butting the edges of those pieces and practice butt welds with no filler. When you've got a handle on that start adding filler and work on other joint types. Watch all the tig welding videos on weldingtipsandtricks youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/welding...dtricks/videos Take your time and have fun.
