mts 251is with 30a

ALoha just got my mts 251is and have alot of alluminum coming up. 2 truck beds and two boat bimini tops. I am buying a 30a for my trailblazer but was wondering how and how to hook it up to my mts. Also will I be loosing pulse or synergy setttings? I just dont want to buy twospoolguns if I dont have to.

can I make a adapter so I dont have to cut off my conector on the 30a? I really want to pulse mig aluminum but I will prob use it on the trailblazer more.

Yes you can buy a miller 10 pin femal plug then buy a 7pin plug from everlast to fit your 251. Follow the wire schematics for miller and the mts251 and make a short adapter. I have an mts 250 so I can not tell you for sure that the synergic function and pulse will work but from what I see in the 251 manual I believe it would. Personally I do not see the need for the synergic function for anything. You will need a euro adapter to hook up the 30A to the mig port .

You need to check your 251 manual to make sure your 251 7 pin plug is wired the same as the mts250s. If it is different then follow the schematic given in your 251 manual. A miller 10 pin aphenol plug will probably cost you $50-$75 . You can probably get the euro mig plug from Everlast. Personally I would get a Dinse plug and plug the 30A power lead into the + dinse plug then run the gas hose right to the regulator on the gas bottle.

You should be able to get a 30A and the wc-24 adapter with it on ebay for $700-$800. You will need the wc-24 to make it work with your trailblazer. Ebay also has the 10 pin female plug you need to make an adapter for your 251. I saw one on there the other day for around $40. Awesome thanks so much brother. I think everlast gave me there 10 pin as a extra for a spool gun it came wiht the welder. I will try and knock this out next week.

When your done you should have a killer setup. You will be able to run your 251 off of your trailblazer too if the need should arise.

That makes sense that Everlast changed to a 10 pin since they have the spool gun doing more functions than what is on the MTS250S. Study the schematics very closely to make sure the 30A is still compatible before you go buy everything. I think the worst that could happen is that synergic or pulse would not work but study closely so you have no surprises. If you have to choose make the pulse work and forget synergic. There are several variations of 30A guns, you might want to get the 30A schematic out of the 30A manual specific to your 30A just so there is no confusion as to how it is wired to the 10 pin plug. If you don't have a manual for your 30A you can download it from the miller web site. They are all wired to the same pins on the 10 pin plug but wire colors might vary on the 30A variations.

Everlast does not have much info ( a manual ) on the web site. If they sell the their 200 amp mig gun to work with the 251 then you will have no problem connecting the 30A. If they included a 10 pin plug with the unit then I would guess they did that so you can change the plug that comes on the mig gun. otherwise they would have to sell a spool gun just for the 211 and 251 welders. The use of a 10 pin plug is probably to support all possible functions needed for the plug to support all possible configurations in tig mig and stick.

girvin, just another thought if your pressed for money is to get the Everlast spool gun for the 251 and wait till you have more money to get the 30A. I run my MTS250s off my trailblazer with no problems and you could do the same with the 251. The draw back to this configuration is reach but you could always get an extention cord for the power lead. I have a 50ft and a 25ft for mine. The gun would not be as good as the 30A but it might get you by for a while. I run my spoolmatic 3 directly from my trailblazer, it does not need any adapter or converter to run from the 14 pin outlet on the trailblazer. The spoolmatic 3 is obsolete but you can get them on ebay for just a couple hundred dollars. I intended to run the 30A I have off my trailblazer and my MTS but I will not pay $400 for a wc-24 when I already have the 3 spool gun. I leave the 30A on the MTS. The 3 also works on my MM200 so its not getting replaced any time soon. Kempy can tell you the limitations of the Everlast spool gun so you could judge if it could do the job for you or not. The nice thing about the 30A is the 100% duty cycle so it does not get hot. You can also get a lot of attachments for it to be used in different ways. Like a flex head. If you will be using a spool gun for hours on end the 30A is the only way to go.
