Thread: 7 pin connector source

    Default 7 pin connector source

I would like to purchase a few of the 7 pin connectors for the 256 torch/pedal. I've been to Mouser and Digi Key, but there are thousands of them, any one have a part number?

I've purchased few off eBay in the hopes they would fit, but no joy. The Everlast connectors are larger in diameter than the standard 7 pin mic connectors sold there. The Everlast black plastic part is 15.5mm in diameter.

    Thanks

I've had a couple people tell me Radio Shack had them. The local one here did not, but I bought one that was close and just used the females connectors and crimped them on the wire of a torch remote I wanted to test. Not attractive, but works fine. Used the pin connectors without the plastic holder.

You can call our main number and see if we have them in stock.

I've now spent three weeks looking for these connectors. Everyone including EBay, Radio Shack Digi-Key etc. have the smaller 7 pin connector which is universally accepted as a microphone connector. My understanding is this is what was originally used on Everlast machines but has since been changed to a version that is slightly larger (IGBTmachines). I have been to over 12 LARGE electronics shops from Charlotte NC to Greenville SC with a used connector in hand and have had no luck locating a replacement. All the shop owners and parts guys first question is, "who made it"? I respond that it is asian and they go glassy eyed. The usual response is yeah, everything is. But who specifically? They indicate the exterior markings aren't familiar nor do they display any part numbers. I've contacted E'last and they sent out a connector that was dyked off of an old used torch (not what I had in mind for 10 bucks, to say the least.). The problem with this approach is that I need one from a foot pedal. The Torch version doesn't have the metal connectors installed and some of the pin holes are blanked off so you couldn't install the connectors in the holes even if you could source them. Yes, another avenue I explored . I don't do temporary/jerry rigged and I don't want to change out the male connector on the welder. This is becoming Very VERY frustrating.

I haven't had any luck either. This sort of thing makes me want to swap the panel connector on the welder out with something more standard and easily sourced.

I just took a look. Did not see them either. The ebay ones are standard 7 pin round DIN, like on Jakeru's Super 200P. They will not work, his unit is probably 3 years old and we change the connector some time ago. We did use that type at one time.

I mailed the main office to see if we can't stock up on a few, will see what happens. Maybe Duncan can get some if he is still at the factory.

Anyway, let's see what happened. I can see how many pedals I have and probably cut a few off. I have done that in the past, but not looking for more work. Other option is just un-solder the one from your current foot pedal or torch (depending on what you are converting). You can always move it back if needed.

    Aaron,
the plug connects the foot pedal and /or torch to the welding machine. It supplies the signal to start and stop the machine and it tells how many amps you require via foot pedal position (rheostat).

    Mike,
Yeah one can change the plug back and forth but I consider that less than adequate/stopgap. The plug shouldn't be that hard to source. If Duncan could score the specs, nomenclature etc. while in the land of billions it would be great. Having the plug available would allow Everlast believers to utilize other options for their machines. As a minimum they should be a stocked part in the Cali warehouse.

Ive looked for the correct 7 pin connector for a while, and finally just gave up. Surly this stupid little plug cant be that hard to find.
Someone from Everlast needs to get a hold of the supplier of their pedals and/or torches, and get a case of plugs from them to sell to us. Sure would make a lot of Everlast customers happy.

A few on the forum have done so and no complaints. There is nothing more that I can do. I mentioned it to sales and mentioned maybe Duncan getting some on the way back home.

It is a female DIN connector, 45degrees 1-2, 7 PIN. The OD on the plug is .60 and the socket is .08. I check one this morning. Sorry I can help any further, call the sale office for let them know what you need. Sure they can cut one and send you one for a fee.

It is in the works, I thought I mentioned that here already? If not, it is in the works.

Does anyone have a photo of the connector and the mating male connector on the welder panel? If so, post it up or send me a PM to email it and I will post it.

All you have to do is type in the name on the plug. Try this http://www.weipuconnector.com/newpro8-7.htm

  13. Default connector

This looks almost identical to the connector on a PP256. I don't know if its exact or what your looking for. Maybe because you were looking for a "DIN" connector you couldn t find it. DIN is a sizing standard which does not apply to these connectors. Comes from Hong Kong. http://cgi.ebay.com/Waterproof-Rubber-Cover-7-Pin-Cable-Connector-Plug-P7D-/290551118485?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a632 3a95

Here is another that comes from China. Seems to be located around the corner from the factory in SHEN ZHEN. http://cgi.ebay.com/2-7-Pin-Male-Fem...item3cb69e606f

And yet another specifically marketed as a TIG/Plasma/foot pedal connector from the good ol' USA. http://cgi.ebay.com/TIG-PLASMA-Foot-Pedal-7-Pin-Chassis-Panel-Connector-Kit-/370496830782?pt=BI_Welders&hash=item564354fd3e

Here is another picture that may show the same connector as the IGBT machine style 7-pin connector. (disclaimer: No guarantees on this pic; I just stumbled across it while surfing Ebay.)
