Any new ideas why you cannot change the amps anymore issue? I had an issue about a year ago with not being able to change the amps...on my Powertig 200LX. I uncoiled the torch lead and Grnd..unhooked rehooked...unplugged torch control plugged and screwed back in...it worked for a few months.....
Well it happened again a few months ago and I still have not been able to get it to work again this time. I did every possible combination of cycling the switches on the front of the machine, checked leads, swapped leads...checked ground...checked power plug wiring...checked breaker. turned machine on and off like 100 times....I also tried the foot pedal no change....The amps are stuck at 12 DC and 26 on AC when I toggle that switch but will not change anymore. The high frequency does work when I press the torch switch and it will strike an arc...but it will not do much more than a puddle the size of a pin head because of the low amps that it seems to be stuck on. I tested the amp POT according to Ray's instructions..sweeps back and forth no hiccups.
I saw a thread where someone was stuck at a high amperage and could not get it to change...was wondering if it was similar..He changed out some resistors and a 4053 chip...
Big questions is......Because it is out of warranty...Do you think the cost for shipping to get it repaired is worth it....or just buying a new machine and scrapping this one? ...only used about 5 125cu. ft. of argon bottles worth of welding through it...so I didn't use it very much.
