Thread: PowerMTS 251Si owners I need your help.

  1. Default PowerMTS 251Si owners I need your help.

Wondering if any owners of the PowerMTS 251Si have purchased a spool gun to go with it and can confirm that the spool gun wire speed dial does in fact work with this welder. I ordered a 250S just for welding aluminum because I am building a boat this winter and was shipped the newer 251Si, when I hooked up the gun the dial on the spool gun does not control wire speed like it is suppose to on the MTS versions. I was shipped the SM200-MTS spool gun which I have been told works as designed on the MTS 250S but its looking like the gun will not work with the newer 251Si. If anyone has this setup I would appreciate any input you may have. Have not gotten a call back from Everlast.

    Thanks
    David

My understanding with the limited info on the 251 that is given on the web site is that there is a special version of the spool gun that is used only for the 211 and the 251 welders. A call to Ray at support should clear it up for you. I think you will need to ship the spool gun back but I might be mistaken. Maybe Mark will chime in and clear it up.

Tried it on Both 2T and 4T, made no difference. The only way to adjust the speed is at the welder, the spool gun dial is dead, does nothing to slow down or speed up the wire speed. Have you been able to test the spool guns on the 251Si models? I am thinking that no one has tested the spool guns on this new model only the 250S. If you have tested it can you send me a link to a video on hooking it up, I might be missing something.

    Thanks

Looks like the 2T light and the Pedal light need to be on at the same time. Thanks Mark for your suggestion on looking into the 2T and Pedal options. Have not tried welding with it yet but the control seems to be working now, will try this evening. Really need a manual for this new welder, any idea when the full manual will be out? Its a lot different than the 250S and the one that came with it is pretty sparse.

Worked like a champ. Be sure to have the 2T light and the foot pedal light on at the same time. Every once and a while I have to push the trigger a couple of times to get things working, hoping I can figure out what is causing that. If anyone has had that issue with the sm200 gun please let me know. Mark is there any place to get the low down on the spool gun pulse settings? I am trying to get in the ballpark for 1/8" aluminum running 5356 .035 wire. I was able to get it dialed in for standard spool gun but and lost when trying to use the pulse spool gun settings. Perhaps there is another welder you carry that has a good description on setting pulse up for the spool gun? Never used pulse on a mig, but was watching some youtube videos of a welder using it on a miller machine and it looks like a worthwhile method to figure out.

    Thanks
    David
