Thread: Advice on new 255ext set up

  1. Default Advice on new 255ext set up

Happy New Year everyone! I am back and thinking this may be the year to try TIG. I haven't followed the forum closely over the last few months and wondered what the quality upgrades were like with the tig welders. Specifically, is it worth it to get the better pedal or go with an aftermarket? Likewise with the torches and regulators? Better to get the package and buy aftermarket when I get up to speed or go with the everlast upgrades? I have also wondered whether I could buy the welder alone for less and build up the rest of my gear from other sources. Thanks for any input, Daniel

I have an older 250EX, at the time the pedals were tall but worked well enough. On the later models, I notice that the pedals seem to be much better than the one I got. I ordered up the SSC pedal from everlast and am quite happy with it. The water cooled torch that came with the welder was so difficult to handle that even King Kong might have trouble with. I ordered up a 20 series torch from CK and its much better. The regulators work great, no need to change them out.

Everlast welders are great and their customer support is excellent. They are good base products to start with and your personal preferences will make it a great welder tailored to your needs and wants.
