    Default Powerpro 205 tig pedal problem

    Today while welding 16ga. Aluminum after I took a short break I started burning thru way to easy. After a little trouble shooting I found that the pedal some how reversed. When I fully depress the pedal it's minimum amps, when the pedal is first pressed its maximum amps. It is a stock 47ohm pedal, AC, 2T, min upslope, min down slope, no pulse. Please help!

    Take the pedal apart and inspect it. I'm thinking you might have slipped the belt and forced the pot past it's stops or something. You can check the pedal with an ohmmeter if you have one.

    Pins 3-4-5 where 4 is common. Search pinout on the forum, most are list somewhere.

    I ran a test on the pot. It goes from 1.6-37800 ohms in both directions with no gaps. I tried my digital meter but turns out it doesnt read high enough, so I used my old old analog meter. The switch (pin 1&2) gets continuity when the pedal is depressed. So I put everything back together and tested at the plug and got the same results. Plugged the pedal back in to give it a try hoping maybe the belt slipped a tooth but now at the very beginning of pedal travel it has to low of amps to create a stable arc. Push it alittle further and I get an arc, and it ramps up until mid pedal and then amps start going down until the end of pedal travel. Immediately pulled the plug and ran a test and got the same 1.6-37800 in both directions.

    From what you describe, it really sounds like a bad pot. Actually analog meters are usually better than digital for testing them as you can see if the response curve is smooth and even. But even then you won't be testing under load, so some things can still not show up. I would just replace the pot, as an easy test. If you have a 47K pedal, the reading you are getting is out of spec, anyway. Most pots are no more than 10% tolerance. You could also measure the control and output voltages, as the pot is usually running as a variable voltage divider.

    yeah I'm thinking your right. It's about the only thing that would cause the kind of changes I'm seeing. Plus it is far from 47k. I assume I can order these through everlast? Or maybe I might just upgrade pedals.
