Thread: 100 PSI argon flo?????

  1. Default 100 PSI argon flo?????

After playing with the (flawless)steel mig & stick functions..the 200n arrived...set up..acetone THEN new ss wire brush in one direction...21.5 v..355 ipm..25cfh argon....Nothing but turds.....up & down the v wfs thing....same...checked argon fittings with soapy water...all good..took the feed tube out looking for crude in the port...nothing...diffuser clean...check flo but really weak....finally..back to 21.5 v..355 ipm..(my settings at work)..cranked argon up to 60 cfh.....WAY better....crank it wide open...NOW its spraying....great cleaning lines...no soot.......Which leads me to believe..Theres a restriction OR leak starting from the barb on the machine up to the gun......Any 200 dual/200N owners exp this....????...Mark...Ram..Zoama..

I have a similar problem. I think my 200n sucks air through the wire feed tube. Maybe blowing smoke back through it will show the problem. After getting aggravated with mine a few months ago I hung it on the wall and haven't touched it since.
When I shine a light up the nozzle I can see light around the slits at the back of the nozzle. I wish there was different neck to fit it. I don't like that type nozzle at all.

I just opened my euro connector and it looked fine other than a zip tie mashing the argon tube almost flat.

Could you please post a pic or two of your aluminum welds with the 200n so I'll have something to compare mine to?
I got a few usable welds with 4043 but I can't run 5356 at any setting.

    So the soot is normal?
Is the wire speed measured or just set on the panel?
Anything on the inductance/arc force setting?
Would the same settings run 5356?

"Some" soot is ok..& unavoidable...What you see I caused.....Notice the soot bands on top side of welds...Because of faulty argon flo..AND i wasn't holding the gun 90 degrees..You have sooting on the top side of both..hardly any at the bottom....5356 shuld spray at those numbers...your always gona have to "tweak" it a little...Wire feed is on the panel with the 200....remote function is only with MTS units..An I think the 250 & up..class machines...Didn't get to the point of inductance..gun smoked just as I was dialing in....Im not worried about the gun...In my exp..Everlast has takin care of ALL(all 2)..my equip issues..Yea..Only 2 in 4 years I think...Big deal....LOL...Here's lincoln 5P+++ & tractor supply 1/8 7018..An .023 hard wire..Click image for larger version.

As in your pics. 5356 sucks compared to 4043. I had no luck running 5356 with my little 140e. However, the 4043 was a dream. Also, if you have the right setting you should get no soot. I believe "Jody" (tips and tricks) mention soot is a "burn mixture" problem. I agree. Here is an unretouched pic of 4043 .035 @30cfh.

Looks like the wire feed speed...3/64 would have a "lower" WFS than .035...If ur gettin 350 out of it...3/64 is around 380 ish....Maybe you could get closer..????? Worth a try if you jst gta run 5356...350 looked better than the other two attempts....

That's the problem, it never gets better. I've been through ever setting in small steps several times until I gave up. 5356 never got better.

What Im saying is..The third weld...(farthest left}..Theres a bead..small but way more than the other two which looks like the wire vaporized before it got there....With the bigger wire..your WFS is close to your machines max WFS...If your 350.....The bigger dia wire might get you where you need to be WFS wise.....Am I explaining this right??

I know what you're saying but I have a good bit more wire speed and I get the same result with larger wire. I have .035 and .045 in both alloys and two brands. 5356 never got better than the far left weld, no matter the wire size, speed, volts or argon flow and I went through it meticulously. I was filling my shop with aluminum smoke over and over. I quit the spool gun before I damaged myself and tig welded my boat stringers with 5356 filler.
The 250p wire feed speed measures a little over 410ipm but Mark says you can't get an accurate reading that way due to the machine giving the wire feed more power when you start welding.
The wire speed display gives you a reference number to adjust by and switches to actual welding amps while welding.

Where about in Florida are you. There is a location field in your user profile. It will allow anyone viewing to know as it will appear in each post.
