Thread: Seriously?! (NEW 51-P problems)

  1. Default Seriously?! (NEW 51-P problems)

So, I have had a 50-P for 3 years and when it works I've been relatively happy with it, but...

So last week, Alex convinced me to go with a minor upgrade to the redesigned 51-P. Upon opening the box I was really happy with the improved feel of it and the cords, etc., and I was happy to get it set right up and on 220, air, etc.

    And...

    No arc. Nothing.

I'm so disappointed. I wish I could call them, but clearly it's after business hours.

So, if anyone is reading this and knows what's up, what would cause no arc but I am able to hear a hum inside and see a arcing at the little leads on front of upper circuit card?

Thanks for any help. Even if no expense to me, I'd really rather not have to wait another week or two to have this working.

Upon internal inspection (I'm a very trained electronics technician so know how to be safe) I discovered that the very large coil on the bottom circuit board has been jarred loose, tearing the solder run with it. It was occasionally sparking contact and initiating a pilot arc.

I'm am sure this was likely damage in warehouse or shipping, as it was clearly well connected at one point. I should have it operational tomorrow (easy short run patch jumper), and only suggesting a design addition of adding an insulative brace between this coil and circuit card.

I really appreciate your fast response. I can send a photo of the damage if you provide an email or text number. Thank you.

Well, to follow up, I got it working great. The coil was the problem, and could be prevented with any kind of brace of the coil.

Call Oleg. He asked me to drop back in and ask you to give him a call. This is probably something we can remedy in the assembly process. But then this is the first issue we've had with them since we started with the new model.
