New to welding but find it interesting, Ive been messing around with a welder at my work place ($4000 Lincoln model) and decided to get better i would need a welder at home. everlast is one of a few brands i am looking at, and i have been reading alot to try and learn as much as possible, thought it would be a good idea to register here in case i had any welding type questions.

Just mig welding but i was considering getting one of the Multi systems so i could play with stick and tig, all steel welding no aluminum.

Yeah Loncoln is not even on my radar, what i really like is the digital display for voltage and wire speed, to get those features i would need to pay more than double the price of an everlast welder

The reasons for this are price/features/warranty - some of these welder brands just lack features others have, or are twice the price, lesser warranties, and or a combination of them all.

Everlast is the brand i am heavily leaning towards so far, AHP is interesting and i have even read that they are owned by the company who makes everlast (win win) and a random brand called Razor i found, though i cant find any prices on them as they seem to be a strictly re-sale company (i like buying straight from the seller not a 3rd party dealer)

So far i am still in the research phase, i was looking at the MTS 200 because it was $850 not realizing it was an outgoing model (hence why the price was so low) by the time i was ready to start looking seriously for a welder, they were gone, though i still see them on Amazon for $1099 i would rather buy something newer for that price (id have it at $850 in an instant though if it ever went down in price)

Soo thats where im at in terms of welder research.

in terms of skill i can do a pretty darn good push weld (according to the guy teaching me who has been welding for 30 years)

ive been practicing circles and whips, i think they are called backfills? like where you move forward sort of leaving the bead and then moving back on it it?

Triangles are a big pain in the butt, i get frustrated and they end up turning into circles. i have also done some vertical ups and downs just standard stuff and have had decent success.

mostly 22ga through 16ga softer types of steel, played with some galvanized steel and wont ever touch the stuff again, made it snow in the building (flaky white stuff) and was told thats a bad idea because of the particles can make you sick as hell.

and this is all just welding at my free time at work, i literally have like 2 or 3 minutes every hour (in an 8 hour day) where i can mess around and i have been doing it for the past 6 months, so now to really get into it and hone my skills i want a welder at home.

and i have also considered taking a 40hr welding class, easily affordable but not sure if i would learnt much more than i have already on my own, other than just sitting down and welding for 40hrs straight to get my skill level up.

I have the MTS211Si and it is great if you want to also play around with DC tig and stick. Having HF start and a good pedal is a big plus.

Razor seems like a good company and products. I have their RazorCut 45 plasma cutter.
