Thread: what is the difference between the Power i Mig 205 and 210?

  1. Default what is the difference between the Power i Mig 205 and 210?

Well they are both the same price and looks to be like the specs and duty cycle are all the same, it looks like the same images are being used for both so i assume they both look the same as well, so whats the difference? is the 210 just a slightly refined model somehow?

I see that everlast likes to do model refreshes alot, it would be nice if they put the year a particular model was released on the sales pages to help people who want the newest model.

The 210 is replacing the 205. In fact the new models should be here soon. Old models are gone I think. Some distributors may have some in stock still.

We don't do refreshes that much any more, no more than anyone else...especially Miller. If they don't why should we? If you buy a unit direct from us, it is the newest model. If you want to see model year releases, you can go to our manuals page.

The 210 will have a bigger case for a full size roll, like the original did, a heavier duty cycle (50%) and a different gun. Of course, 210 amps instead of 200.

huh you better update the page of the 210 to reflect that because it looks like its the exact same as the 205.

No reason to update the page. The 210 states everything accurately as far as I can see right now. The 205 you see there is essentially the 210, but pre-name change. I guess I should clarify that once we upgraded to the 210 specs and larger chassis, more amps, and better duty cycle, we continued to call it the 205, but we decided to go ahead and make the name upgrade as well in mid year production. But the "new" 205's which we sold were bigger than last year's model most of the year. Either way, we are out of stock on the 210 for a couple of weeks, and the 205 should be no more in name.

    Hi Mark,
Did you get the info I sent on how to correctly rewire with new plug the 200n spool gun to work with the i205??? Did they fit this problem with the 210?????

Thanks Pete, I think I did. It wasn't an issue with the 210/205 per se, but rather the gun they were shipping for the unit.

FWIW, They sent me two different guns and neither worked. The first gun had the correct plug (male), but was wired wrong. The second gun had the correct wiring, but the plug was wrong (female). In addition, the gun with the correct plug was wired for speed control from the gun and the 205/210 are setup that way. Only to help the next guy who buys a spool gun, you may want to physically check (and test) if you now have a gun that works. At the time I got mine, nothing you guy's offered was correct.
PS.......Really like the "SPOT" and "STITCH" settings on the i205.

Pete, I remember that email, but can't locate it. Care to post up a jpg of what you did, in case anyone might have bought one and not used it yet?

    Hi Mark,
    From my email.
    To All,

I believe this info should help you in the future. I have a new I-Mig 205 and bought a Spool gun for it. After receiving two different spool guns and had neither of them work, I really needed to talk to people in your company.

Well, after much help from “Andrew”, “Ray”, and Mark”, I was able to reconfigure a “new” connector and rewire it, and now the gun works perfect.

Here are the specs I found:

First you need to use an old spool gun made for the I-mig 205. Now, this gun has a female connector, which needs to be changed to a new male connector similar to what is used on an MTS 205 spool gun. Then the wiring needs to be changed as follows.

As per “Ray”, Pin 6 and 7 should be soldered together. Next the red wire of the spool gun goes to pin 5 and the black wire goes to pin 3.

Make sure you “DO NOT” just look at the wiring on the old connector and duplicate it on the new connector, because the “old” connector is numbered “clockwise’ and the “new” connector is numbered “counterclockwise.”

This should fix all the problems other buyers will have if they purchase the new I-mig and a spool gun.

Might be better to indicate what the wires go to than the color. Very often colors in cables can change and sometimes are not even standardized in Chinese factories.

You really can't make a mistake.
