Thread: Another Canuck on board

  1. Default Another Canuck on board

Just received my powertig 250EX last week. Haven't got it running yet, but today should be first run of it. Just using an air cooled torch on it until i buy or build a water cooler.

Bit of background . . . old dog decided to learn new tricks in a a mid-life career change and went back to college for welding. Worked full time while going to school full time, so decided to wait to start looking for work while enjoying summer with kids, since the family never saw me during school year. Still work old job, but almost all welding jobs are out of town so being in town for summer with kids was a main deciding factor. Time to start looking now. In the meantime, I have kept in practice doing various odd jobs and projects for people and decided to buy a tig machine for myself. After researching and asking questions of guys with 40 plus years experience who have owned everlast for a few years or used them extensively (not just youtube channels promoting) I made my decision. Other than those who are only about "blue and red", I never heard one bad comment about everlast. Quite the opposite in fact . . . good machines, great customer service, and even after years hold up.

So today, should get it fired up. I have a dedicated 30A fused shut-off being installed eventually (I'm just a little OCD with this type of thing). But for now, I'll use the already present plugs for it in my workshop (last owner of my house was a welder). I have a few projects in mind once i get a bit of practice in (been a couple months since i've ran tig . . . it'll be so nice to do it again).

In short, married to understanding wife who lets me spend money on my passions, father of 2 girls, decided on mid-life career change, took course, bought welder, and i'm hooked.

    Thanks for having me here.

    Hey, cool,

    Welcome to the forum.

Yeah, I first started welding (mostly Stick) just before I was 40, and made a living at it for a few years; all out-of-town field work over a large area. But now, at nearly 57, I'm enjoying TIG for personal projects. And AC TIG on aluminum is still pretty new for me, since getting an Everlast 210EXT several months ago.
