Thread: Purchasing Everlast 200DV

  1. Default Purchasing Everlast 200DV

I own a automotive shop and in need of a tig welder with capabilities to do alluminun. I have seen quite a bit of YouTube welders and everybody is saying good things about the Everlast brand. The reason I am leaning towards the 200DV is because of the DV capabilities and for what I need it for like repairs on transmission housing, brackets ect I think it will do the job. Has anyone test driven the Everlast 200DV before? Thanks in advance!

  2. Default

Gee, I don't know, but aluminum transmission housings may suck down and conduct a lot of heat into it before getting a good puddle from a 200 amp machine. I would think it might take amperage more like the 250EX can deliver, especially at starts, to give a more localized blast in getting a bead going without the whole housing getting saturated with heat, which I'd think would be especially problematic if you leave seals intact at places. I know it sounds kind of counterintuitive to want more heat to ultimately have less heat input, but I'm still a novice with aluminum AC/TIG. Otherwise, the 250EX is not much more than the 200DV, but it's not dual voltage, so the 255EXT may be more ideal still.
