Thread: I think it's broken..

  1. #1

    Default I think it's broken..

My < 2 month old PM256 seems to have suffered a critical loss of something important. looking to confirm.

welding AL : 100A, AC, about 150z, 35% balance, with or without pulse.

So a couple of days ago, once in a while, the arc would start but would sputter. I could weld for a few minutes, then the warning light would come on and not go off by itself (would need to switch off then back on).

Today, the arc doesn't start... get the HF pre-arc, but no welding. the warning light stays off...

I've tried calling tech support yesterday and today but haven't gotten a response yet..

Should I just contact the warranty group? or is the something else I can try?

    Nanoplane?

Did you leave a message? I am sure if you left all details, you should get a call back promptly.

yes, I did leave a message both times but haven't received any response yet. I'm ok for a couple more days, but I would like to get some resolution on this before the end of next week. I was working on a project for a trip at the end of the month, but I have a friend who has a Tig welder I can borrow to get that done.. If the unit needs to be returned, I'd like to get that arranged before the middle of next week or so..

Usually the response from Everlast staff is excellent and prompt.. no complaints.

    I'll call again tomorrow..

Yea, the unit has about 15 hours total use on it (3 x 80 cf tanks of argon.. )..

It was working perfectly up until that point though..

I have a background in Electronics and don't see this as all that unusual.. with most electronic systems, if something is going to die, it will do so within the first couple months of use otherwise, the stuff basically lasts forever.. (barring electrolytic Caps drying out or horribly poor design.. not something I see here).

I'll exchange details off board on what needs to be sent back.

    Thanks!.

    Default finally back

Ok, after a month, I got the replacement. Yep, even warranty replacement is subject to the international shipping inconsistencies. (gotta work on that guys.. :-).

Tig seems to be working fine on this unit. I'll check out the other functions soon.

    Marcel,

Of all things, I received a call yesterday from the main office. In our move to the new building and new phone system upgrade, we found "tech support" had a second mailbox no one know existed. For many months we had like 3 or 4 people stating they left message and we did not call back. And as always, I told my boss, we return every call (as us tech guy work hard; ask Mark). It appears they found a mailbox that had 54 message in it. Maybe two incoming calls at the same time and one got the new found mailbox? No idea.

That is most likely the reason you did not call the prompt call back you received before.

The problem is fixed now. If anyone does not get a call back in the future (within 24 hours of course), a simple email to sales@everlastwelders.com, support@everlastwelders.com or performance@everlastwelders.com with your name and number, it will get forwarded to the right department.
