Gee,

Since it "runs fine" with a "normal stick out", it may just be a setting, like too high a flow of gas for the cup size that you're using. Or, if that's not it, I'd rule out the gas itself, by just swapping out a bottle. And if you're not using one already, put a gas lens on the torch.

Maybe some pictures of what "normal", etc., looks like would help.

Lengthen it some it just digs into the metal, no puddle. I use to be able to vary the length depending on the work piece but now it's very finicky. Does it with the pedal and torch switch operation.
