Thread: Digital vs Analog Question

  1. Default Digital vs Analog Question

I'm selling my Lincoln Square wave 175 that I've used for a decade. It's been a good machine for my kind of general purpose work, I've never needed more current, or more duty cycle. But, I would like to have some of the newer technology:

    • Pulse
    • AC frequency > 60 hz
    • Digital display readout
    • Post flow control
    • Lower amp starts

On paper, the 185 & 200DV ticks all my boxes. I don't think I'll need the advanced wave forms on the EXT, plus I prefer the knobs vs the buttons for settings.

The specs on the website describes the 185 & 200DV as "Compact digitally controlled IGBT inverter", but it is listed under the Analog welder menu. Also, the 200EXT is described as "microprocessor controlled". So I'm confused. I read that one of the advantages of the Everlast machine over the AHP is that the Everlast is digital vs analog. So help me understand this.

    • AHP Alpha Tig 200 = analog controlled
    • Everlast Power Tig 185 & 200 DV = digital controlled
    • Everlast Power Tig 200 EXT = digital microprocessor controlled

If the 185 & 200DV models are really not digital, are they any better than the AHP Alpha Tig?

    Thanks,
    Walt

Ok. Good question. I hope I can clear up the confusion.

1st...All PowerTIG, i-TIG, PowerPRO, and Ultra units are now digitally controlled with a microprocessor. Previously this was not the case. There were separation in the units ending in T were all digitally controlled. Now all unit have a microprocessor controlling the function.

2nd...to maintain a distinction between the styles of operation, we have maintained a digital/analog distinction as the digital is still all touch button and digital encoder. The analog retains analog style inputs rather than the full compliment of touch buttons and scrolling LED's. The analog offers a simpler setup/control options with less precision, but still uses the microprocessor to control functions.

    Thanks for the reply Mark.

So if I understand this correctly, the Power Tig 200 DX is also a digitally controlled unit? The picture shown on the site has 4 rocker switches. Is that picture out of date, or is this unit still analog?

    Thanks,
    Walt

DX is no longer with us. It is DV now. It is still up for a few distributors who may still have them in stock.
