Thread: Remote options for powerarc 280sth

  1. Default Remote options for powerarc 280sth

I've got 280 sth and want use an amperage control remote with it. At work we use Millers with thumbwheel remote that can started argon flow and adjust amps.

Searching this forum for amperage controls only seems to show results for the Tig welders, not the stick welders that can Tig. And the torch Everlast sells with amperage control does not state which welders it works with, but a forum post I found said it does not work with the digital Tig machines.

I'm able to solder and rewiring a remote or changing out resistors would not be an issue if somebody can confirm there is a way to get an amperage control to work with my machine

    Thanks

Should be no problem if you are willing to do a little tinkering. Check the resistance of your pedal and shoot for something in that ballpark. They are typically wired as a voltage divider, so you don't need an exact match. It was mentioned that at one time some of the digital machines could use almost any value, but I have no idea if that still applies. There are quite a few designs for hand controls, and that is more of a personal fit kind of thing. CK has a few styles as well as Miller and others. Verify the pinout on your machine to match up a different brand. Not sure what plug you have, but Everlast has been pretty good about using standard off the shelf plugs, unlike Miller. So you should be able to find one to wire up to whatever control you favor.

I believe the foot pedal is a momentary switch to use 2t/4t. I've actually never used the foot pedal but I'm pretty sure it function same as torch remote

Hmm well after RTFM it appears pedal is 47k and controls amps. Thought I remembered hearing momentary switch clicking when I had checked it out a while ago. Never tried wedding with it tho. Thanks for reply hopefully I was mistaken about pedal

The pedal contains both. A switch to control the gas solenoid, and start the HF and arc, and a potentiometer to control amps. The standard torch control has just the switch portion, but the full control models have both, just like a pedal.

I would advise you try the pedal before looking at other solutions. It is by far the best way to TIG when you can use it. The hand control is a poor second, best suited for things like being up on a ladder or under a car.
