Thread: AC TIG Arc Shots Demo First-Of-Kind Everlast 221 STi AC/DC TIG-MIG-Sick Multi Unit

  1. Default AC TIG Arc Shots Demo First-Of-Kind Everlast 221 STi AC/DC TIG-MIG-Sick Multi Unit

    Yeah,

I thought this was worthy of posting. I mean, Bob Moffat did an earlier video, about 10 days ago, on the DC TIG aspect, which was quite nice too.

But I've been waiting for the first demonstrations of the AC TIG on this unit, which is what makes it a one-of-a-kind unit over most other MIG-Multi units makers, that only do DC TIG, and which usually have no HF arc starts and often don't include a automatic gas solenoid ability for DC TIG, unlike the newer Everlast multi stuff, which do include HF and a solenoid for DC TIG.

Anyway, the arc starts, terminations, and overall arc stability appear to be quite good, which is no surprise. Mr. Moffat didn't demo the additional Triangle waveform on the unit, which I thought was a very smart added feature on the unit, as I like Triangle wave for thinner aluminum, which is a material that is still pretty new for me.

Here's Kevin Caron doing an intial demo witht the 221STi. And it looks great.

I'm guessing that he'll do some more stuff with the unit too.

Does anyone know what is causing that sputtering? Mine does the same thing.

I could be mistaken, but I recall on the Weld.com forum somewhere, that an upgraded Nova foot pedal being passed along to Bob Moffat after this video.

Kevin Caron, in his video demo of the unit seemed to have no trace of a sputter with the OEM pedal, if that's what he was using.

I upgraded to an SSC pedal for my 210EXT shortly after getting my unit, a few years ago. Now Everlast has the Nova upgrade foot pedal, rather than an SSC branded one, but they are both undoubtedly better than the OEM pedal.

    Or, maybe it's your torch/tungsten.

Post a pic of your torch, with the tungsten newly prepped and at your usual stick-out for us to see, in case there's something at that end.

Otherwise, call Everlast if there's nothing for us to spot.

And please do let us all know if you do get an upgraded pedal, and if you find that it improves things.

I'm going to try and call them today. It does the same thing with trigger so I don't think it's the foot pedal. Hopefully they have good news because I'm not a happy camper after spending north of 2 grand and already having issues.

    Yeah,

Don't try to call them, just call them.

But, one trace of a thing in the video is that Bob was grounding the machine to the table and the aluminum work piece was picking it up from there, which may have affected the arc on the terminations, especially, i.e., ensure a more direct ground to see if things improve.

Also, this unit seems to have a Dinse port just for the AC TIG ground (the red one). So, is that what you're using for aluminum?

Kevin Caron sets his up with the ground in the red port (like Bob Moffat does), and seems to do fine.

But then ChuckE2009 sets his TIG torch in the red port (at around minute 9:40), and seems to do fine that way too.

Otherwise, don't linger, especially during the 30-day, 100% satisfaction guarantee period. I mean, if you hate, get your money back, then be happy.
