Thread: Mig Welding Perameters

  1. Default Mig Welding Perameters

Does anyone have some good settings for your Everlast machine from 1/8th" up to 1/2" regular mild steel. I know a lot of variables go into it, just looking for some good starting points. I use to use an app on my phone my Lincoln and the setting seemed to be pretty close. However, after replacing my phone I can no longer find the app. I've tried the Miller app and the wire feed speed seems to be way off, unless it is my inexperience and i'm not moving fast enough. But I seem to get a better looking weld when I slow it down. I'm running a 251si in standard mig mode.

For example the miller app states for 1/8th" using .35 wire I would be at 280-300 ipm and 18-19 volts

When I weld at those settings I can feel the wire tapping the metal that I am working on.

No one's settings are right even for their own brand machines. They are a loose guide. Very loose. The way you should set it is by what you hear, and what you see in the puddle. If you don't know what to look for, or don't know how it should sound, there are videos online that can help. You need to be able to see the puddle and recognize the puddle, and act accordingly. You can't auto pilot MIG. You still have to know what the puddle looks like, and what a proper arc sounds like. The only way to do this, is to practice, practice and practice...and watch GOOD videos on MIG welding.

The Lincoln app is better to me. But I think it is still available. I downloaded one not long ago. Just search free welding apps. It should be there.

The Lincoln app seems to be gone. Now replaced with the Lincoln Library, and there seems to be a lot of complaints that they did not include the old parameter selector. The one thing I didn't like about the Lincoln one, was that they used their own product numbers not the industry standard designation. For example SuperArc® L-56® instead of ER70S6. And the one thing all the calculators seem to suffer from, is they don't include the travel speed. That has a huge impact on settings.
Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!

I had downloaded both at the same time, and they were separate apps. Looks like it is not up now. hmmm.

Google image search any manufacturers mig settings to see the door charts.
