Thread: New 160STH gas leak?

  1. Default New 160STH gas leak?

    Hi everyone,

I have a new 160STH. First, I'm a novice welder. This is my first welder and I've just begun to use the TIG torch.

I believe that I may have a leak in the gas system in my welder. When I light the torch, I hear very little gas flow from the torch and I hear a hissing sound from the fitting on the front of the welder where the torches gas line plugs in to.

I believe the the line is properly attached to the fitting on the front of the welder. The hissing sounds like it's coming from inside the welder. Looking through the vent holes in the bottom of the welder, I can see that the black gas line in the welder is attached to the fitting.

Is this normal? I have to believe that it's not. I'd assume that I shouldn't hear any gas exiting from anywhere others than my torch.

    Thanks for your help.

    Best regards,

    Tom

Please disregard this post. What I perceived as a gas leak (sound like a hiss) is apparently the HF start mechanism inside the welder.

    Sorry for the noob question.

    Best regards,

    Tom

Hey, not a problem! I had a regulator flow tube leak on me when I got my 250EX. The tube was cross threaded and a simple remove and re-screw was the easy fix.
