Thread: Is it a Secret?

  1. Default Is it a Secret?

I'd love to know what the "Normal" presets are for the parameters on a 255EXT when TIG welding.

You can't scroll through those parameters, to tweak something just a bit, because it disables the review process.

Is there something so special about those preset settings that we're not supposed to know what they are?

    Default

Do you mean the easy setup? If so, you can scroll through and it will give you a default value where one exists IIRC. If you are using a foot pedal, there are very few presets available. Just Preflow and Postflow time. If on AC, you have AC frequency and balance added to that if, again, you are using the foot pedal. Upslope, start amps etc, are not adjustable because they are irrelevant with foot pedal use and do not apply.

So, NONE of that has been my experience...

Yes, "DC easy setup", when selected the only parameter you can change, or even observe, is the Amperage. When you push the soft button > to step the LED around to the various parameters, it does nothing (the reason I ask if there's some Secret here being protected )

Also, foot pedal or not, there are obvious Start & Down amperage changes, of some sort, going on.

And that's what's so interesting to me! I tried the EZ setting one day and it was like no other TIG welding I've ever done. With your foot off the pedal there's a few seconds with a bright, white, light (more like HiFreq than Arc) at the end of the weld. You can lift your helmet and almost look at it! (I'm not suggesting anyone does that of course )

When I turned the Main Amps down to 30, from the 90, I was thinking I could adjust the presets down too and discovered I couldn't do so. If I wanted to create my own 30A preset with similar settings, I thought I could recreate the most of the EZ's (just for S&G's, I don't Need them I guess, it's just my curiosity at work here...)
