Thread: Powerplasma 100s to Hypertherm Torch?

Default Powerplasma 100s to Hypertherm Torch?

I am a new member here. I am about to purchase my first Everlast machine. I have looked and can get the Trafimet plug that goes on the torch. I absolutely hate the torch that comes with the Everlast machine. I think it's a IP100 or something like that but anyway. I was curious as to how hard it would be to retrofit the Duramax 105 amp hypertherm torch to the Everlast. I like the machine... hate the torch. Anyone every did this? Is it as simple as reading out the wiring and duplicating it or is it even compatible? Thanks for all the help in advance.

It's possible, though I don't think it would work, since they are designed for different amp/volt curves and delay times.

What is wrong with the torch? We've never had any complaints about that torch. It's been reliable and is well designed.

You ever see something that you just dont like? I cant go down to my LWS and get parts or consumables as to where I can with the hypertherm torch. I also have a 2' hypertherm long torch. I do alot of oxy/fuel hand cutting and that 2' plasma torch feels more like a oxy/fuel torch in my hands and would like to learn how to use it as such. My shop is Miller Full and I just sent my spectrum 875 out the door on ebay because I really like what I see with this everlast stuff. Ultimately it will be used on a small 2x2 cnc table which may involve 2 machine purchases. One for the table and one for hand work. I would really like the Hypertherm torch on the one used for hand work for sure. Thanks.

Nice to hear that you got it converted. Good to know that option is available. Having local parts is a big plus when the clock is ticking on a job.

Does it work satisfactorily? How is consumable life?

I have enough time with the HT duramax torch on the 100s to give it a fair report. Performance of the machine is night and day difference. Consumable life is 4 sets of ITP 100 to one set of HT 105 nozzle and electrode. Inches per minute is increased as well. Zero misfires so far. Did a 100 piercing test on 1/2" A36 with both. The HT torch still produces square kerfs practically dross free. I am extremely happy with the conversion. I did have to bump the static air pressure up to HT recommended settings which isnt a issue for me. Air consumption wouldn't be a problem with my compressor set up anyway as I have plenty. If anyone is interested in the conversion I will help them . Just send me a PM or ask questions here.
