Day 4 Everlast 325EXT
Still didn't get my hood, I'm flying half blind, but just trying to check everything out!
More AL checkout!
1/8" 6061 piece of AL
Very upper #1-4
Straight AC, advanced Square @ 130A
Fair enough, as it should be
Checking pulse
Lower right two attempts
First at 130A nothing but trying to clean
Second 200A, no filler, about right, cleaning and metal penetration (concave dimes)
Top bead set Advanced Square, 30% Peak, 15% Backgound, 1.2 pulses per sec
I see where this is going, need to experiment with settings, everyone on net has different settings.
Torch is getting hot, AL is getting hot!
One more try, lower left Advanced AC Pulse (AC/DCEN combo)
Holy crap, when the second half of the cycle (DCEN) kicks in something is going to melt
Using 4043 1/16" filler melting before hits the puddle
Had to use a kinda lay technique, lay filler on AL and slide forward into pool and then back out, quickly and keep torch angle nearly straight up
Will need to change to 3/32" filler
Everything is overheated
Touched glove to AL and melted a hole in it
Water cooler and torch next

Yeah,
Small coupons will heat saturate very quickly, making heat input different, or may cause metal to drop out, or beads to widen, unless you quench or allow frequent cooling.
That Advanced/Mixed Pulse, I think, is mostly for heavier aluminum. But, who knows, maybe it could benefit thin aluminum somehow too. I set it to 100% DC amps, so that it never has a high-low pulse, just a side-to-side from the AC half to the DC half, so that it's non-reductive and unlike a typical pulse.
Looks like you're having fun, and rightly so!!!!!!!!!!!
