  1. Default 2013 PP 256 No Tig, No Arc

I have a PP 256 that I bought in 2012 or 2013. I haven't used it in a while, and when I went to TIG some steel DCEN, all I got was a very weak arc, not enough to melt even a razor blade, though I had 150A selected. I switched electrode holders and ground clamp to + and selected ARC, and got nothing. I checked voltage at the electrode connectors on the front and got no voltage.

Any ideas where to start looking?

Yes, I tried that. No luck. I took the case apart and verified the points are arcing, so the weak arc I'm seeing is the HV pilot arc behaving normally. Display is also behaving normally and switches between modes appropriately.

I reconfigured the leads and front panel for stick but nothing happened when I tried to strike an arc. I got out my VOM and checked the voltage at the electrode connectors on the front panel and confirmed there was no voltage.

So we've got HV in AC and DC TIG mode, but no arc is being established, other than the normal HV pilot arc. In AC or DC Stick mode, no voltage appears at the electrode connectors on the front panel.

The above observations lead me to believe that there is something preventing power from being switched on to establish the arc. Any ideas?

Well I'd suggest you call in at the number below and talk with ext 207
