have polio problems and need to know what hand control will suffice for super200p. have 4 1/2 years e-tech certified. can i build one?

That is not a bad idea. I was going to talk to Alex about a finger controlled torch next. Would be a nice feature.

You would ohm out the foot pedal pot and put on on the torch. Maybe a pot with an off position and take the foot pedal plug and make one. You would need to tie it or panduit it to the torch cable to the unit.

But an ohm meter to the foot pedal plug will get you the numbers and switch info and it could be done. Just get another foot pedal plug and that way you keep the foot pedal as well.

I am looking into getting the 200 amp AC DC Tig from everlast and need a hand control as well , I heard that when using AC you have to use the foot control on AC?
I am a paraplegic so I need full control on the torch as well..
And Ideas, I have been looking at the Miller Dynasty 200 dx but its 4300.00 for the unit just for TIG and have read mixed reviews on the everlast welder..

The TIG torch has a hand (thumb) control. The foot pedal allows you to adjust the current while welding. Many people weld without a foot pedal, it is not required, just a nice feature.

In your last post in another thread (TIG) I thought you said a "contact" switch for the torch? Are you talking about a variable current control on the torch? That's different.

We are looking into that for welding out of place and for handicapped welders.

I too would order one. The foot pedal is great "when" you can use it, but it is not that often for me with my projects. I am sure other do a lot of work on a table and can not live without it.

The biggest complaint I have heard about the adjustable hand control was the knobs were so small its hard to use with gloves on.
To the OP, as described already, building a working proto-type will be the easy part. Having one small enough to not be in the way, but still be large enough to use comfortably will be your biggest obstacle I would imagine, although easily accomplished with a little time spent finding the correct components

That is the advantage of the 2T/4T setting. The torch switch allows you to start out cold and gradually ramp up your heat via the presets on the machine face. Its an excellent feature, but some people have trouble understanding how it works and its purpose.

Sorry I wasn't specific enough. I wasn't referring to the everlast torch, I was talking about the torch the "other" guys sell with the pot on the torch. From my understanding its too small to controll with the gloves on.

I did understand you. I was simply trying to explain to all those who read that the 2T/4T function can be used in such a way that the torch control shouldn't be needed for many uses.

But the rotary control may be too small. The slider type switch is probably large enough, but there again is the problem...it may be too large and in the way. The "resolution" needed to get fine amperage control will make one quite large.

If you do fabricate your own, Mike should have the ohm readings for the unit. Thats important to keep from burning out your unit.

Well bringing up an old post again, here is what I am going to build for a remote amp control for my 256. I think it would help because if you are not right near the welder then just reach over turn the amps down when heat is built up in the workpiece.
Here is a picture from a miller remote but would be simple to make with a 47k ohm pot and a project box from MPJA..
Then just keep the contact pins conected to the torch and just make a jumper with a male /female jumper between the two so you dont have to cut into the torch and you wont have to always have the seperate amp control in-line. Will be an easy project.

Check and see if Everlast Canada http://www.everlastwelder.ca has a air cooled flex head in stock. Sounds like that is what you are after. Or you can get a WP20 from us and not use the cooler lines.

IF he doesn't use the cooler lines, the torch will melt, and do so quickly. He will need a 9. We have had 9's as well.

The 9 would be a better choice "if" we have them and he never plans to run a cooler of some type.
