New Everlast family member
Hi guys, Just ordered a 210EXT and cant wait to use it. I have been into the automotive scene since I was a kid but never had the garage, space or money to have a welder. Things are different now, just finished building a 28x32 garage and wired it for welders etc etc. So being new to Tig I have alot to learn. If anyone can give me tips I would deeply appreciate it and I would like to know if the NOVA upgrade is worth it?? I can still add it before the machine goes out this Monday. I am planning to do some welding on one of my cars soon.
My first question would be is when do you know you do not need filler rod?? I have scene video's on youtube when they dont use a filler rod
thanks!

Well,
Generally speaking, you'll always do far better using filler on a welded seam, AC or DC. And AC fusion or autogenous welds on aluminum are a waste of time, to me, since they're so crack prone.
Tacks on DC with a good fit up are doable sometimes.
I'd say get the NOVA, then compare the two. You'll probably like the NOVA better. And then you can sell the OEM one on the forum here. That's pretty much what I did shortly after I bought my 210EXT, over 5 years ago, even though Everlast's upgrade pedal back then was an SSC branded one (I believe SSSC produces the NOVA for Everlast now, too).
Otherwise, I've been using a CK SteadyGrip pistol-style hand-amptrol device with the 210EXT almost exclusively now.

Well,
It's about the best time in human history to be learning TIG, even on your own, as now with the Internet, and many helpful video content producers provide some really good free instruction.
Plus, only several years ago, a unit like the 210EXT was not really affordable to most newbies, i.e., a Miller Dynasty, at about three times the cost (comparably equipped, even without the $500 upgrade SD card), was almost the only game in town for an advanced featured AC/DC TIG unit.
So, have a ball!
Watch some Jody Collier and Weld.com videos.
That's what I did when I got my 210EXT, just to prep myself for some AC TIG on aluminum.
I mean, it'd be nice to have an old pro give you one-to-one instruction, but most anyone is capable of doing it self-taught, without taking too long.
So, please do post back in this thread of yours, how things are going, as you'll undoubtedly get some concise support on this forum from members here, and from actually Everlast staff too.
It's a great time for welding market consumers!
