Thread: Hello from new member!

  1. Default Hello from new member!

Hey there all, My name is Lou and I reside in the Chicago land suburbs. Fairly new to the forum, have posted on a few threads here and there, but have not formaly introduced, so here i go! Forum name is Trackmaster, after a company i welded for back in the late 70's - early 80's. Thats where i cut my teeth so to speak, welding thin wall 4130 tubing. We had the entire Redline account and made all of their BMX products, as well as Robinson and another or so. We also made and jigged, welded, Trackmaster Harley flat track racing frames. Auto 4130 racing chassis ( probably have thousands of hours on 4130, yeesh! ) From there went on to Aircraft engine mounts, airframes, etc. for another outfit. Was cert'd to mil spec's for some proto work for the F-15 eagle fire control systems produced by Hughes Aircraft Corp., ( worked for a Job shop, where we did a lot of sub'd out work for larger firms and had in house cert's ) Microwave guides, Actually worked on a reflector that went up in a satellite, ..... wonder if that sucker still orbiting, or if it has saddly burned up! lol! Some structural stuff for big arena class concert lighting boom sytems, fleetwood mac or someone, can't remember. Anyway, currently an Airline Pilot, but have a side fabrication shop i maintain, cause ive always had a love affair with welding Tig, in particular! Just recently got a 250EX, couldn't resist the features vs. price point. Fantastic arc, and capable of amazing welds, but unfortunatly, having some issues with quality control, and to be fair on the first machine, likely shipping drop? I'll post fully under the tig column. - peace, Lou

  3. Default What Suburb?

    Hey Lou,
I knew you welded for Trackmaster but I didn't know you were in Illinois now. I was born and raised in Kankakee just south of Chicago and my dad owned the Yamaha shop there from 1963 to 1981. I bought one of your "oil in frame" trackmaster frames last year on Ebay and built a nice TT500 yamaha out of it. It had a leak in the oil tank that trickled into the left downtube up at the head tube so I bought it pretty cheap. Fixed the leak and it has been a great bike ever since. I live in Tallahassee Florida now and awaiting arrival of a new 256.
    Regards
    Scott

  4. Default Chi-town suburb

Hey Scott, good to here from ya brother! I'm up here in Elgin, so .... what maybe an hour, hour & a half away? Yep left the birthing grounds for your frame years ago, but great memories man! We had a kind of signature weld style for all those frames. No Big deal really, but we did get quite a cult kinda following! Are they running those for a vintage class or something, i heard?

That would be great to see it sometime, if your out racing somewhere! That would really bring back some memories! - Lou

  5. Default racing at Springfield

    Hey Trackmaster,
Some of the best racing in the world is coming your way on Sunday Sept 5th in Springfield at the mile track. There is also a pro shorttrack race on Saturday and I am sure there will be vintage and amature racing that weekend too. AMA has a big vintage program this year and the AHRMA is also running all over the country. Gene Romero is running vintage races in Cali too. Seems like flat track is getting some much needed press and new rule changes are making it much more competative with lots of different brands running out front. Harley has had a strangle hold on the sport for so long that it was getting pretty stale but new life seems to be breathed into it lately. Enjoy the weekend and be sure to let us know how the new ac balance control board works in the 250 when you get it.

  6. Default Racing

Thanx for the info Scott, .... man I'd love to go to some races! And yes I'll let ya know how the boards work out. Love this machine, 55lbs, vs. probably 500? or something, used to weld your frame! Technology marches on! Way cool. - Lou
