Thread: Another Machine DAMAGED in SHIPMENT

  1. Default Another Machine DAMAGED in SHIPMENT

Today my long awaited 250 ex arrived. First off i noticed some poke thru holes in the box and box seems to have been collapsed some. So i opened up the package, pulled the machine and it LOOKED fine. I called Mike in tech support about a question i had on wiring the plug, whaile talking to him he suggested i pull the cover from the machine to check i view items that are vulnerable during shipment.First item to check is the top pan which holds a gaint circuit board, it was bent just like mike said it would be if the box had been dropped. On to the next area, this is on the left side of the machine when standing in front of it. there is what looks to be a small transformer that has big copper wires leading to it, above another electrical part that can come in contact with the other causing a short. This area checked out ok, so mike says put the cover back on and test out the stick side of the machine and if that works thats a good indication that the machine might be ok, that checked out. So now i try the tig side, tack 2 pieces of aluminum together no problem start to weld them and boom all of a sudden i have to much amperage spewing out. look over at the readout and the #'s are jumping all over the place. Great now im dead in the water till i get another machine. upon taking the cover off again and giving everthing a good look see i discoverd a big brown looking thing laying in the bottom of my welder and i can see the circuit board it came detached from. So the conclusion is ANOTHER DAMAGED MACHINE FROM SHIPMENT, was it on the way to the states? was it UPS ? I personnaly don't care who's fault it is, i want i welder that works. Maybe the people at everlast need to open and inspect their product when it arrives in the states, maybe they need to switch shippers within the states. I do think they at everlast need to resolve the problem with action as to not have customers recieveing equipment that fails on arrival. It seems my fears have come true as when buying this welder i hoped to not be another one of the stats of "machine damaged in shipment" customers and here i am.here are pics of the damage and i have more of the box too.

    Dogger,
We have spot checked units being shipped out and even take before pictures of the units...All in perfect condition. Never found any in the box damage from the factory that I know of. We wanted to verify this ourself. And customer has sent us pictures of the same box after it arrived, and we have found serious damage that has occured in shipping on the state side.

We have upgraded the packaging. What more can we do? We more than comply with the shipping standards. We are looking at otherFedEX, but its not just easy to switch, especially if we are footing the bill for shipping. We are working on it.

All I have to go on is what I see in the picture and that can sometimes be decieving but if that is what I go by then that's not a shipping problem. That Capacitor came loose due to a QC problem at the factory, it was never soldered.

Mark i have called Everlast and Mike in tech, left a message about this. im sure it was after hours when i did, hope you guys can get the ball rolling first thing tommorrow to get another machine out to me. Appearantly UNIOIN UPS EMPLYOEES are responsible for this type of damage. This machine was dropped and has typical damage due to shipping, i have pics of the unopened box i will send if needed to everlast.

I know Everlast does what they can on your end but is it worth all the hassels to keep using a shipper that costs Everlast money in the end ?
I would of gladly paid to have this machine shipped to my door if would of gave me a better chance of it not being damaged.

We ship a lot of units each month and on occasion we have shipping damage. Only those unit end up here on the forum. And we will make it right for you.

On the cap, from the end the picture was taken of, I do not see how the other fellow can say it was not soldered in. As well all the units are fired at the factory on a load box.

You need to call the office 9AM PDT 877-755-WELD (9353) and get extension 201. Ask for Alex, tell him you have talk to Mike in tech and have a DOA unit and he will get you taken care of. We get 90% of shipping damaged units going over the phone, this is that 1 in 10 we have to exchange.

I understand the excitement of the welder and I understand when you are the person that got a bad one. Get Alex on the phone and he will get right on it.

A easy way to check if it is a QC problem is to check the Solder pins on this 450V cap. If you have a 1.5" tail from the solder pins it has not been done.
The likely Culprit in this case is the board has been cracked and the area of the crack is likely in the Board strip or possibly in the small diodes between the Capacitors. If the unit has been dropped there is a likely hood of the board not flexing in this area to absorb the Shock due to the proximity of the fastening points and the size of the capacitors.
It is highly unlikely that it was not soldered as these are one of the first components installed on the boardand the pin holes are aproximately 1.5 times larger than the pins and to add to this the board is turned upside down for soldering on numerous occasions so the cap would fall out long before the board was even close to being sent for assembly.
But nothing is 100% foolprooof. A picture of the other end of the Cap would determine this.

Just to lay to rest what sschefer said, here is a pic of the capacitor. This part was solderd, it was attached to the board as you can see where it was sealed to the board.
This is shipping damage plan and simple and i have no doubts about everlast taking care of me. What does bother me is the time frame because just like everyone else i need it now ! I called everlast once a week for 4 weeks waiting for them to get the next shipment in and when they came in i orderd one. I have a job sitting here waiting for a weld machine which i know is not everlasts problem but this seems to always happen to the people in need.

P.S. This thread is in no way meant to harm Everlast or to question their equipment. It is meant to show the damage that can occur to a machine when not properly handled.

So to other owners of this equipment remember these machines are like computers so be careful with them if you take them on jobs with you or move them around in your shop or garage. Im sure none of us would drop are machines but if it happens take alook inside to make sure everything is ok.

That says a lot about Everlast. Shipping a replacement before getting the damaged unit back is over and above quality customer service in my book.

I know it's a bummer to receive a DOA unit but hang in there, it's worth it, these are neat machines.
